  • the middle head rest of the mkV golf

hi guys, just wondering can the middle head rest in the back row be pull out completely? mine one can't and refer to the dealer and they said its not mean to be able to pull out and they tried on other mkV too. is this true?
but i found a little button that you can pull the head rest up and down, so how come they can't pull out??
    thanks guys

My '07 GTI's middle headrest is fixed - no up or down adjustment, nor can it be removed. This is confirmed by the manual, which states that if the middle head is unconfortable, move to another seating position!

My centre rear has only the one standard position but can (and is) pulled out. I guess I keep it out to aid in reversing. I just keep it in the boot in case I load up with people, then pull it out & whack it in.

          Hi

I have just noticed the same issue on my 08 GT Sport. We took the 2 normal headrests off on the weekend and found the middle one can only be adjusted up one spot but will not cone out. Was going to ask te dealer at next service, but seems this must be how it spose to be if others are having the same issue.

You must be able to remove it somehow. It may not be designed for regular removal like normal headrests, but a quick play with a screwdriver/torx bit or something should see you right.

The next question is, do you really need to remove it?

I own a MK4 GTI and have removed the middle head rest. It badly impeded rear vision and in 18 months I've only once squashed three people into the back of it (poor buggers).

Yeah, I did the same on our Mk4 too. But the Mk4 centre headrest is the same size as the two outer ones. On the Mk5 it is squat one, so in theory, you should be able to see out the back without too many problems.

My 2004 fsi was able to have the center rear headrest removed to fit a child seat after consultation with the dealer.
From memory its not hard to do and the dealer can show you how.

I think there is a small pin hole in the plastic retainer, if you insert the right tool in there you can pull them out.

This guy is on to it!

One side has a release clip visible, the other has a cover with a small hole. you can use a strong clip to push on the other release clip. I prefer to twist the cover and lift it to gain access to a second release clip.

                          Cheers.
