I'd bet on a drop in resale on carsales, if the R20's start at $~ $57,000 which is the converted NZ price.
NZ has less taxes than Australia and less red tape, why do you think they get the new models first and have extra models and additional options available for a much much much smaller market?

In that case would it be worth importing one from NZ? Surely it couldn't cost too much for freight + duty? Or would it work out roughly the same after all that..

Firstly you can only import a car if it is elligable on the SEVS register, which a car will only be if it isn't for sale here, or similar to a car for sale here.

        Exception's:
        a) race / rally. Not bringing the car in to register, only going to race. Need CAMS level 3 and previous racing experience

        b) personal import. Must have owned car in other country for over 12 months

I'm of the belief that their current asking price is on the high side, especially given people in this thread have bought brand new cars, drive away, for the same dollars

Anyhoo thanks for all your input so far, much appreciated guys
This is why its been nicknamed cardreams, too may people trying to sell cars with unrealistic prices on them. It cant hurt to make a realistic offer on it if you are a serious buyer.

          $36,500 is definitely dreaming.

I do like the quote "Priced for quick sale, fantastic car, great condition, low kms"

          hardly.

          Looking at Redbook.

          Average Private Price+ $26,300 - $29,200
          Trade In Price Guide+ $21,700 - $24,600
          Average km+ 45000 - 75000
          Price When New (RRP)+ $39,990
Given that extras dont add a large amount to the value of a 2nd hand car, id be offering $30k for that given it has got leather and low KM and only if its in A1 condition.

Redbook sucks if you're selling or trading in as the prices stated don't include optional extras but people usually compare a car to the cheapest one and try and get it fe a similar price. That's why I don't like chiding too many options as you don't get it back.

Still worth paying a more for a low km and one in better condition.

Im with you at that one mate, unfortunately you dont get much back for speccing up a car. I like to keep it to only the stuff i really need. Current car was Sunroof, metallic and DSG. New one is same plus MDI.

I know i dont get much back for the sunroof, but i like to have it, especially in a car with such a dark interior.

This is to be the family car so it has to be a 5 door. The car it replaces is a 2 door and my car is a 2 seater, so no choice there.

Redbook doesn't always reflect the current prices cars demand, they base it off what it SHOULD be worth based on year & usual depreciation.

If you head to drive.com.au there one is a little more realistic, they use glasses guide from memory.

I've offered both guys several K more than 30, no roadworthy, no hassle just an instant buy! As they have only both just started selling, they need some time to get used to the prices.

havnt been on here for long but yer since i finishd yr 12 and well been looking at cars on carsales/drive/trading post day to day im guessing...

                          1. 60k ODO would be around 26ish as i saw 1 on ebay a dealer with 60k a couple months ago a white one aswell for 27 990 drive away

2.07 36k ODO id be saying nothing more then 30k

3.08 45K odo id be saying in the low 30K price range mostlikely 30-34 but then again im only basing this on what ive seen on carsales for the past few months lol

hahah and+1 on what u said about ppl selling for the same price they purchased.

yeah i was thinking about doing the same thing, all the quotes were around the $2000 mark, luckily i found a car with leather.

I was actually looking for the exact same car as you with white but a silver one came up at a good price so i bought that, white definitely looks the best IMO

Silver is nice, however her current car is silver hence the want for change. Found a black MK6 demonstrator, drove it on the weekend, with the government 50% investment allowance it drops 6k off a 40 drive away car, putting it in our price range. In fact given it would make the car 34k drive away, it makes a mockery of all the MK5 owners trying to sell a car with no reg left, not much warranty left, not including stamp duty, for MORE

Anyways, she didn't want it, because it wasn't white.

Let's face it, the R32 is an abomination among Golfs.

It has 60% greater engine capacity than the GTI, weighs more and consumes far more fuel around town and yet shaves barely 1 second from its 0-100km/h time.

                                Why would you bother?

In urban use the GTI is far more nimble than the R32 and faces handling challenges well within its capabilities, rendering the AWD redundant.

No doubt the R32's resale value will drop like a stone compared to the GTI which far better meets the needs of most motorists for efficient, enjoyable and sustainably responsible motoring.
