i have had my bluefin for about 10 months now. Just removed the flash as i was taking back to a dealer.. and i must say the difference is huge.

Bluefin claim about 25% increase and i dont know about the figures though it certainly feels about 25% slower without the flash..

Putting it back on this evening. Love it. Cant do without it.

I don't wish to inflame or initiate another argument, but am seeking a quick roll call and info from anyone with a TDI 2.0 Pumpe Duse, aka PD140 diesel (pre CR models).

My car is MY07, late 2006 build.

All I really want to know is if it's definite that there are resettable tunes (aka units like Bluefin and the former Chipped-UK/Viezu alternative), for AU cars like my MY07 2.0 TDI 103kW/140PS.

I just read some of the Chipped-UK ST3 thread on golfmkv and it was one to read with popcorn!

I am still recalling some conflicting info re. Bluefin; I recall it may have taken care of the ECU counter reset issue for the PD140 but not the GT PD170. However despite the talk, the Chipped-UK aka Viezu company never got a solution to this issue for Aussies?

Are there any others with one or more maps on a backup unit or are Revo, Unitronic and the top-end brands and custom jobs all just done at the tuner?

          Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by resettable but I have a MY07 BKD (2.0 PD) Jetta with Bluefinn and I can confirm the flash counter is not incremented and I can flash back to stock using the handset.

Did they advertise their product as providing an improvement in fuel economy? I ask because with our TDI tunes, the fuel economy isn't improved by much at all. It is difficult due to no control over ignition timing as you would with petrol models.

Therefore, it is really hard to fathom an improvement of almost 1L/100; these gains wouldn't even normally be typical on petrol models!

I've got a count of 5 for my ECU reflashes. Either my car has never ever had a single reflash and those are all from me, or over the life of the car, before I got it, it had 5 reflashes. I think i've done mine 5 times or so.

On a side note, I had a turbo failure on mine (probably expected at 102,000k's and unknown history!), but the dealer (used car warranty) replaced it. Due to issues I noticed with the bluefin (superchip) map - It was spiking on overboost - over 1.6 bar on the spike (the turbo in the PD140 is a bit iffy) - I asked them (Michael at Superchips) to reduce the boost by 0.05bar and reduce fueling by 10% (in a diesel running lean is cooler, running rich is hotter!). I highly doubt the turbo failure was due to the remap. It was probably due to the previous owners driving, the KM's the car had done and the way it had been used.

That said, if I take the map off the car it's a different beast altogether. It goes from being scarily fast to being quite docile. The 2nd/3rd/4th gear acceleration with the map on is crazy, it really does pull very hard.

No offence to the Australian distributors (as exchange rate and importing duties, etc is not really caused by them) but I bought it from the UK. Cost me under $600 landed, which is unbelievable value. If it was $1200, I wouldn't be as happy!

[edit] - Superchips DOES claim to reduce fuel consumption. Mine has always been fairly good, I, from memory, found it better when mapped as I really can't drive it flat out on normal roads, whereas with the stock map you really can keep it nailed a lot more. I average about 6L/100k's in normal driving but on good days with high speeds I can get 5L/100 or less - Even when racing off the lights when I do have to stop!

I've had my 2.0TDI Jetaa for a few weeks now and thinking of getting one of these for purely Fuel Economy.. Not about savings dollars at the pump, but more about bragging rights .. how much I can squeeze out of a tank / feel good factor..

I find performance of the 2.0L TDI more than enough stock

At the moment I'm getting only 630-650kms from my first full tank.. all city .. some stop start traffic, some free flow.. I would have hoped for 700-750kms city?

Is 10% economy increase still a real figure we can achieve with bluefin?

Come along for one of our drives from Waitara, up OPH.
Do it first before the Bluefin, then compare it.
Let me know if you can come along.

Interesting indeed. Have to say ive found ive done a few Non Vag diesel tunes of late and not Bluefin for the record , Vspire Superchip and the consumption went down a bit, due to the lead foot!!!! was amusing to watch the driving style change. i know of a Hyundai Iload that dropped consumption and so did the life expectancy of the tyres!!!!. Hmm.

Had the opposite effect with my bluefin - I went from easily getting an average of about 5.8l/100km to now averaging 6.5l/100km. I fail to see how running the car on more boost therefore injecting more fuel could ever improve fuel economy. Anyone looking to buy a re-flash purely for savings in fuel will be disapointed.

Yeah but really who buys a bluefin for its fuel benefits? Most get it because they want more performance which you'll get some no one is really going to return it to get their money back. Where did you read that its guaranteed or your money back?
