Bit of a threat revival, but a more than a year on I've decided that i've caught up with what was satisfactory performance in my stock 2.0TDI
But the car is not young anymore, having done 90,000kms..

Would this affect/reduce the effectiveness of Bluefin flash

And... Would it be detrimental to the engine, manual gearbox etc since its not a young car?

(note: I have noticed that fuel economy at 90,000kms was better than when it was at 70,000kms)

Nope, just as effective unless you are aware of an existing problem with your car.

Not detrimental (other than it may exacerbate any existing problem).
RE Fuel economy, you're correct. Diesels usually take 60,000k's to wear in so you're just seeing the benefits of this. A 100,000km diesel is still a baby.

Make sure you do your timing belt on time (4 years or 120,000, whichever is first).

        Thanks Wokwn

Well ended up getting a Bluefin and just came back from my test drive.

Flashing: All fairly straightforward, fun to do.

        Now.. the performance.
I gotta say before it was a car that pulled hard at low revs.

Now it pulls hard only at higher revs. For some reason it feels like turbo lag is slightly increased and it only pulls at 3000+

In terms of the increase in performance, I don't feel it.
Definitely doesn't feel like 20kw more and 76nM more.

It drives now more like a high revving N/A car.. which I don't like.
The torque just doesn't feel much better .. was expecting neck snapping, push you back in the seat torque..
I think the turbo spooling sound / blow off like whoosh sound has also disappeared?

Now that I've read more reviews, seems like it really shines above 60km/h on the open road..
but how often do people go out on the open road... I'm after every day road performance.

Is the car supposed to take time to learn the new map or something?

Overall, I think I will try it out for a few more days and maybe I will sell it if I feel the same as today.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for this kind of performance increase..
It feels less fun to drive and like I'm punishing the car more.

Hmm.. maybe my car was already performance flashed when I bought it, just didnt know?

i will say though the fuel economy shows very low avg consumption for the amount of hard driving I was doing..

        Sorry if I sound sour..

anyone tell me how much it is to reset a Bluefin so it is ready to sell again ?

Talk to superchips or your reseller first, it sounds like something is wrong. They may ask you to do some diags first.

My experience was that, yes, it can rev harder, but I also get a huge shove at 1750RPM whereas before it was much milder.

I do have DSG though which can keep it on boost whereas you are in a manual. My turbo also got louder after the flash which you said yours doesn't do.

Failing all that, you might be able to flash back to stock, send your handset back and get most of your money back. I found the reseller I used (GC Corp Performance Parts) very communicative so talk to whoever you bought it from.

            Hey Wokwn,

i contacted superchips directly in the UK
They gave me a 2nd map to try

It was worse. Felt almost like stock..
So i wrote them back and I guess I gotta wait for what they say..

All im really after is their claims which everyone is raving about:

Yeah weird, I reckon mine is great and I think we have the same engine (2.0 BKD PD).

It's good enough that when my Skoda arrives I'm getting superchips to do that one too (guy that flies in from NZ reguarly to do them, the new engines you can't flash from the ODB port).

I haven't dyno'd my car so I can't say if it meets their dyno graphs.

Good luck with either getting it sorted or getting your money back.

If you get a refund, you might consider one of the local guys who can flash your car and tune it on the dyno, but of course that's more expensive.

yeh, believe me i don't want to speak ill of superchips.. I want to have the "greatness" everyone else is having ..

Just damn shame I gotta wait for UK business hours.. by then its late and I cbf going down to test the car...

BTW- Is there any way to save all the maps I have been given to a file and open them later so i don't always have to wait for superchips emails?

                  Me again..
Got a 3rd map from Superchips and tried that this morning.
Its got a bit better pull after 2500l, but definitely nothing to write home ..

Emailed them again. Will see what happens. I get the feeling they wont have many more maps to offer ..

Okay after 5 different maps from Bluefin, looks like we might have one that could work.
Feels like more torque surge but not really sure how much extra power it really is..
Fuel economy is better when being easy on the gas.. but jumps heaps if you even give it a second or 2 of high revving.

Wondering if anyone in Sydney (north shore/northern districts area) would want to do a comparo session with their bluefinned 2.0TDi?

                    thanks.

Hi there just one thing, you find a file that may have worked, you will need to give it as few days to learn mate, at least give it that, i would say 4-5 driving days, although you should notice an instant difference you do need to allow for ECU learn time.
Ive done a couple of BKDs with no problem. really got to make sure yours is spot on standard before the tune though, just incase there is something else in the mix.
Hope it works out, talk to Jo Berry at HQ in the UK if you are still havin dramas after 4 days or so

                        Cheers

Jazzd - just got the 103kw 2.0L Diesel.

                          Jmac thanks for the tip.
I think its going on 5 days now. Not sure if its too much different from the day I put that latest map on.
Might give it a bit longer ... like time next time I fill up.

Jo's the one I've been talking to.. he's given me the several diff maps.
Im just not sure if I should ask him for more lol.. he might start getting annoyed..

Just been reading through this thread and surprised to hear the problems you're having.

I had my TDI flashed around 2 years ago now (ST3) and my power increase was immediate. Not one ounce of regret and consistently get 5.5l/100 as well as mountains of torque when needed.

Hope you get everything sorted and enjoy the difference flashing makes in the near future.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Sounds like there's more going on... Have you scanned the car for codes with vagcom to check that there's not a problem with a sensor? In all honesty the difference between stock and bluefin was huge.

Are you sure the car wasn't already mapped before you added a bluefin?

                                Or a tuning box?

When you floor it do you blow plumes of smoke or is it clean?

I'm on the north shore (near Hornsby), PM and we'll see if there's a time I can take you for a run. It should be very different to drive. I also have vagcom
