I though the denvers were 45, and the 18's on the R32 were 50.

Basically anything around or over a 45 will be fine. I was looking at some on ebay now but they are 35 and I dont want to run 205's to make em fit

I'm sorry but this confuses me. If you go over 45 (with a, for example, standard 45 offset), each mm over is a mm closer to hitting your strut towers. Anything under 45 would be fine.... it's just the legal issue of having your wheels poking out from under your guards you have to worry about (You'd need about a 15-20 offset and a wider wheel before that happened anyway). Also, I'm unsure how running a lower offset would mean you need a narrower tyre?

The lower the offset the better IMO, get as close to in-line with your guards as your can, it definitely makes for the best look. Just out of interest, my car has a 43 standard offset, I'm running a 20 offset on the front, 25 on the rear. Wheels sit in-line with my guards, and I have a wider tyre!

If you need help, here's a very helpful website for wheel offsets.

according to that calculator your right..

the LESS the offset.. the MORE distance further from the car they sit.

So to be safe.. if your going a wider tire then you should have a lower offset..

though from what i am reading here.. if your going 17x7.5's then an offset of 50 or less should be fine.. though ideally about 40.

PoloGTi what size tires are you running?

just did my calculation.. and going from my Jetta 16x6.5 to Audi B8 17x7.5... i lose 8mm inner clearance and gain 18mm outer..

anyone know exactly how much clearance you have to play with on the inner side?

                    sigh.

(removed a nasty bit, forgot I need to play well with others on this forum)

                    Read this

                    Next, read this.

And just for those too lazy to read/research themselfs:

Now, the lower the offset the further out you go, this is correct, but its illegal in aus to have a wheel protruding from the guard, so you need to run a smaller tire, and then you get into load rating issues.
Moral of my post, if you want 18x8 you want a et =>45, if your lowered you really want to get closer to 50.

if you run a wider rim, you want a higher offset otherwise U'll rub.

I run 235/45/17's (normal is 225), was fine when not lowered, lowered 1-1.5" and the fronts rubbed, did the guard screw mod and its been fine since. if you REALLY throw it around they will touch but I've only managed that a few times since.

so in summary, the higher the offset, the further IN the wheel will sit (eg closer to the car) if you run a lower offset it'll sit out, and thus rub, so you'll need a smaller tyre.

Aleksii ran some A8 reps with a +35 offset, and for them not to rub he had to run 215's (or 205's? cant remember) Now i dont know about you, but wider tyres = more grip, and thats something I like.

Sorry Polo, but your way off the mark IMO. feel free to prove me wrong.
