most places tend to quote around $1000 mark for colour coding. Obviously if u hunt about you can get cheaper though.

white is apparently a total prick to match too, mine is out.. they tried twice and its still out. And I took it to other shops and they said they couldnt do any better.. But the bumpers arent matched from factory so what can you expect i guess
Dont haggle and you can complain later if you're not happy they'll be more obliged to fix itLast edited by chrisgti; 16-12-2009, 05:03 PM.

This will definitely be the first mod I do when I eventually become an owner - even if I do get a black one!

heh doublecab,
from Adelaide & travelled to Sydney to buy my 2005 Mk5 gti. Paid $22k for a one owner FSH mainly highway 140,000 km car. I love it. Full leather interior only option. Couple of small trim issues, aircon takes ages to work, I have read about all the condensor issues & hope it is just a regas, but mechanically solid as a rock. for modern cars I have no issue with mileage as long as service history is rock solid. a great car & a great buy, I was looking at mini's until my wife said too small, & just lucked upon this GTI. always loved them but up to a few months ago nothing ever under $25k. have seen a few cheaper recently. good luck

When doing my colour code they matched the cars paint quite well only to find that the upper section of the rear bumper from the factory isnt a great match. So my car is one shade, the upper bumper is slightly different and then the lower matches the car pretty well. Its really an issue from the factory and the place that did my colour could said that if I wanted it perfect I would have to paint the upper section of the rear bumper as well as it was off from the factory.
Funnily enough you can see the same effect on some factory colour coded pirelli edition cars. The difference is quite subtle but its there! Especially on a friends Silver one

Having spoken to them since I dont think they are overly keen to do the job again. As to smooth it properly its a lot of work! They quality of the job was ok. But not to the level that I would actively recommend them anyways.

Yeah, the paint reflects slightly differently and takes differently to plastic vs metal.
I just had my rear bumper done and i reckon now it s closer match than it was when i got it.
