Thinking of buying 2005 gti

Hi Guys..............was looking at Audi tt 2001 but after I sat in one and couldn't 'approximate' the front guards/front of bonnet, I have now turned my sights to a 2005 Golf Gti.

So a couple of questions please...............

1. What should I be aware of?

2. How many K's ...........is 130 too many?

3. What would be a bargain price for a 2005 GTI?

Are you talking about MK4 or MK5 GTI?
There were still a couple of MK4's around circa 2005...

However I would also assume you mean MK5.

Id look at something with less than 130ks on it. There are squillions of them out there. Whats your budget though? good examples usually hover around the 30k mark. Cheapest ive heard is around 25k

Why buy one that old when there are 07-08 models going dirt cheap ie 27k. It will be cheaper in the long run getting one with lower km (ie 40-60km).

Just my 2c, but the difference for a lower km one wont be much.

Thanks for the feedback Guys.............but was also asking what things/issues/problems one should look out for/be aware of that this vehicle has/may have and may require costly remedies?

Only thing that has major issues are the air con compressors (should of been replaced under warranty/recall?? - maverick has a link on his site about it)

and the DSG auto can sometimes need a new mechatronics unit. if you find one under 3 years old you can get the extended VW warranty for about 1300, will give u another 3 years and 60k.

hey mate... just got one - well about 2 months ago now.

FYI - 05 GTI, MK5 - Tornado Red, 68,000km's 6 speed manual, 5 doors, Factory Sat Nav, Sunroof, and Leather - $27K.

I got it checked out before purchase though - comp test, vw history on all/any parts ordered for this chassis/eng number, and the rest of the usual stuff. Did find factory dv to be faulty (leaking boost - but a common fault), so replaced it with Audi TT valve, apparently a much better product.

or you can buy my 07 DSG Leather with 45k on it for 33.5, stg 1 + full suspension mods, serviced every 7k5.

My car was coded when I got it, I was amazed to hear its not like that from the factory.... and honestly would be the first mod I'd do!

whats a fair price to pay to get front & rear bumpers, and side skirts colour coded?

varies, but 600ish seems to be pretty normal. worth every penny IMO
