  • Mk 5 Pirelli or MK6 GTi

I'm considering buying a MK 5 Pirelli however the only review i have been able to locate has indicated that the ride is a bit rough. As this car has to meet all my needs i would rather not have my fillings rattled out on a all day drive.

As i understand it one of the advantages of the GTi over other cars in its class is it's easy to live with nature.

I would appreciate any advise on the subject.

Hey mate, welcome to the forum. This topic has been dicussed in the past here...

If you utilise the 'Search' function toward the top of the screen you will find a number of topics dicussing the MK5 Golf Pirelli, its tuneability, and its good and bad points.
This is a handy tool to use.
I typed in 'Pirelli MK6 GTI' and found a number of topics strait up.

Once again welcome to the forum, and don't hesitate to ask for assistance.

      Test drive one.

I was also in the same position.

This is where i got my from and this one only got 2000km. My same colour but only 4000km, same owner sell it. The Owner just got 2 the same.
When they was sell the one I got (a few weeks ago), was 48k drive away with 4000km too. Damm it, this should be better

I find this to be comfortable, well soft then my Honda Integra with Koni Sport Yellow Suspension.

      I only test driven a mk5 & the pirelli.

I just wait for the wrty to expire to get a apr chip.

That's a tough one, newer model vs. higher performance older model.

Agree with the advise to test drive, but I'd say both will be fine (actually great) to live with, so it probably comes down to what is more important to you (ie. as above, newer model vs. higher performance older model).

Take both for a drive and see what make you feel best.

I own a Pirelli and have been on the MkVI track day.
I also bought the Pirelli knowing that the MkVI was going to be introduced soon. After I compared the looks of the VI and it's specs, I knew I had to have the Pirelli and I am glad with my choice.

In my (biased) opinion, the Pirelli gives you a more visceral driving experience. You can feel the engine rumble from your seat when you are pushing it. The MkVI, has been refined to a point where you no longer get this and you are more detached from the driving experience on a daily basis (may be a good thing or a bad one depending on your tastes). The MkVI only approaches the MkV only when you are really pushing to it's limits but it is still a little too refined for my tastes. Many reviews have said or alluded that the MkVI is not as fun to drive as the MkV GTI is.

The ride of the Pirelli is jarring but but not bone jarring bad -even on back roads it is fine - the large tyres just glide over potholes like they aren't there. My wife uses the Pirelli as her daily drive to work and loves it.

If I was given the money to buy another Golf, I'd buy another Pirelli in a heartbeat or maybe the R32.

Me too! I wanted the maximum kW to weight so I could push the boundaries on P-plates. MKVI wouldn't do that for me

                            Good choice....
I would go Pirelli all the way given the 2 options

                            Enjoy your ride....
I did finally push it during the Maroondah cruise and loving it more now...
