Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Anyone know what this does or why it would be of benefit?

As it says it prevents kickdown by restricting the travel of the pedal so it can't press the kickdown button.

It's a very Neanderthal way to do this when you could modify the wiring to disconnect the kickdown button. You could even have it disconnect the kickdown automatically when you place it in Manual mode.

On your go pedal when you push it all the way to the floor there is a secondary trigger, or a click that will make your car change down gear even if your in manual mode.. go sit in the car without turning it on and feel for your self.

This gadget will cover the trigger (or the button if you so wish) that enables the kickdown, thus no more dropping of gears when your WOT.

Proved it on the dyno. Trust me, it will.

Looks like a simple way to solve a simple problem.
A bit like the Russians taking pencils into space while NASA was wrapped up in making an anti gravity pen...

well had my little run. turned out to be about an hour. just try to stop driving this thing, its addictive. definately does kick down in manual if you mash the pedal, quite abruptly to. Not sure I like it. I can think of occassions where it will get you into trouble. It's one of the reasons I dont like auto's. Although you could just remember not to floor the pedal at 30km'h in 2nd whilst on a tight bend.

You can change gear in a corner with a dsg as the gear change is so fast it doesn't upset the balance of the car.

If you mash the pedal in 2nd gear what do you think is going to happen? Absolutely nothing because it won't kick down into 1st gear.
