SYD TDI 105k service costs & dealer recommendations? Should I worry about the intake?

Hi,
I've not been able to find discussion specifically about standard servicing for TDI MkVs, so would like to combined the questions and check if anyone has some comments from their recent servicing experiences.

[PS. I am a little worried about accumulated oil as a result of my car being at its 105k service interval, but using the stock recirculation system which puts some oil back into the air intake. Would like to install something to keep the intake clean of this recirculating oil! Catch can or a diverter?]

Is the 105k service around $300, as I've read somewhere on the forums?
Do I need to just ring around to get prices or are the VW dealer service costs all a fixed price?

I bought the car from the Penrith VW dealer but haven't heard great things about them, nor about the dealer at Five Dock; however I've heard good things bout CCC, Chatswood, but no comments about the Waitara dealer.

I'm asking specifically about the TDI experience because I'd like to know that anything needing fixing will be found and fixed (under the VW Aust extended wty) - and to know that any issues with the clogging of the intake would be checked.

The VW dealer I bought from offers fixed price servicing but I'm not sure how competitive they are.

[FYI I don't drive the car much for short trips, but use t for long (30mins at least) trips, which might help with the engine's longevity]

We have a 2006 Golf 2.0 Tdi. It has had 3 services at McCarrolls at Waitara. I have been pretty pleased with them and mainly due to their convenient location I have never shopped around to check prices at other VW dealers.
At the last service they indicated there was "quite a bit of carbon build up in the intake" and recommended a special treatment to decarbonise it. I think it was about $180. As the car had only done a little over 40000 pretty relaxed kilometres, and always highly suspicious of additional workshop "treatments" not described in the service book, I declined.
So to answer some of your questions:
- I would recommend McCarrolls (though note I have not based this on their service pricing relative to other VW dealers)
- should you go there I am sure that with 105K on the clock they will push the "intake decarbon treatment", and that in July this year they were quoting $180 for it.

Take the treatment, then get a Provent. See the diesel section for details, in my mind it's a must do for any TDI you plan to keep long term ( over 100k from new )

Two dealers have come back mentioning the oil change part plus the timing belt replacement.

I thought I'd read in the car's manual that this was due at the next service interval, 120k, but maybe I was confusing that with the DSG service.

So, for the dummy, the 105k interval should be when the timing belt gets done, correct?

Thanks ABCD; I'd like to get a VW specialist to help with the non-interval servicing like the intake cleanup and the provent or similar solution. Thanks and I hope to report back on the service situation. So far, $1150 & $1350 are my quotes (including the timing belt).

Provent made by MAN, is not illegal when installed correctly. It will minimize oil accumulation in the inlet tract. I installed Provent200 in my T5 when the van was 1 year old and now at 70,000km+ I can wipe the inside of the inlet clean using the rag only (meaning Provent is doing great job).

I doubt that VW would void warranty because of the Provent installed (correctly installed and functioning).

To OP.
As Cogdoc said, get the treatment and install Provent, nothing wrong with that. It can save you a lot of money. Especially if you want to keep your TDI for long time.
