MK5 GTI aircon compared to Polo GTI

Hey,
3 year lease is coming up on my 2006 Polo GTI and I'm thinking of possibly upgrading to the MK5 GTI.

One thing that'd really help sell it (i.e. the ~$300 extra payment per month over just extending the lease) to my wife would be the aircon performance, which I frankly find rather lacking (to put it nicely) in the Polo - especially compared to wife's Accord Euro.

The key point here is that I try ride to work 2-3 times per week (to get some bike fitness for the mountainbike trails!) and to reach the 15k kays per year wife drives it to her work on those days.

Could anyone here with the relevant experience comment on the air con performance difference between the two? Many thanks!

Not sure about the Polo, but I originally thought the MK5 GOLF GTI, air cond was the $hits... but that's because of climatic control which does NOT allow for the coolest air to come out. Instead of using "Auto," just chuck it to "Low" and adjust the fan speed instead. Works a treat now.

Ah, if you'll pardon the pun, that's cool to hear! (I added the bold text above, which is how I assume you meant it .

Even at just around 30-35c the Polo seems to take its sweet time cooling the car down. Euro on the other hand is just awesome at the auto setting, needing just a few minutes to get things to a good range.

The worst thing about Polo is the close to impossible task of seeing if the aircon is actually on - as the light is virtually useless when using sunnies on a bright day (which is typically when it is needed); climate control on the Golf sounds good, with the knowledge of chucking it on manual for those extra hot days.

Nope, My bro-in law has the Accord Euro as well... the European cars can't beat the Japs for air-cond power... they work so well, it begins freezing. But then again, sit in a Falcon or Commo, and they blow the Japanese air conds away.

I have never driven a Polo to compare the air-conditioning, but I think the air-conditioning in my Golf GTI is great.

Living in North Queensland it obviously gets hot during summer ... but using the automatic window down function (holding the unlock botton down) while walking back to the vehicle ... followed by the air conditioning auto function for a minute or so and the car is at a very cool temperature. I then switch the fan speed down because the car is cool enough.

No complaints here.

I have no complaints with my POLO up here...
it may take a minute or two to cool down on a hot day but more than sufficient for my needs.....

one thing is does lack is climate control as it is a pain trying to maintain a steady temperature... it just keeps getting colder and colder and adjusting the temp dial isn't overly sucessful, so I just put it on cold and live with the frostyness

the wifes mits 380 on the other hand is so damn cold you find yourself reaching for the heater switch lol
