what size of the tyre fit gti rims?

looking to buy a set of gti 17' rims and just want to know what size of the tyre they fit? 205/50/17 or 215/45/17?
what brand is good?i mean price and perfomance

Just had my tyres rotated as the front have about 5000km's left in them and the rears were looking the goods.
