quaife lsd.. how much to fit?

Since Im so sick of axle tramp and wheelspin to the point im considering an s3 just wondering how much if anyone knows to fit an lsd to the GTI? Swapping centres in a RWD car was never that much hassle but Im not real clued on whats involved with the Golf.

Theyre selling for 900us with a lifetime warranty.. How many hours labour to fit and also wondering how the stock clutch would hold up?

Any reason you'd choose quaife over peloquin?
As you're in Brisbane, I'd suggest asking Guy Harding as I believe he's been involved in some LSD equipped GTIs.

I thought the peloquin kits were more complete with bolts etc.

I know hong (hcgti) on golfmkv.com has on in his vf powered mk5, so he may be able to shed more light on the process.

writeup looks convincing.. will have a look into the peloquin.. Ive seen Guy quoting 4-6k if thats the case then I cant see myself doing it..

I think Mike Weber also has a LSD fitted onto his GTI maybe you should drop him an email and/or phone call to see what he can do. You can probably even ask for a test drive in his car to see if it's worth the huge amout of money on the upgrade.

Wider wheels + better tyres also make a big difference if you haven't already thought of that. Would 245 rims fit under the GTI arches?

yeah the car is going to be lowered and I already scrub on some corners at stock height with 225 ku36' so going wider isnt really an option..

If you are referring to me where Have I quoted 4 - 6k? - we have sold & installed a couple of dozen & they don't come out anywhere near that - back when the dollar was ~ 65 cents they cost a bunch more.

They are made in the UK, so they are subject to duty & taxes on arrival & they weigh over 10kg's (even you could work out the airfreight on that).

Oh, it wont help your traction in a straight line at all - at the track & through corners is where it comes into play

Unfortunately its all next generation stuff.

Another option is to install a clutch type LSD & have a real diff for about 4-6k - not quite the same as a new GTI, but much more effective.

So now the dollar is aproaching 95 cents how much would you estimate? Also what type did you install in your car? I know under normal conditions in a straight line it wont help much but when breaking traction I thought you would have a bit more control and I liked the way your car didnt tramp in that you tube vid.

Thats a clutch type differential - not a Quaife (Quaife is a Torque biasing differential - same as Peloquin.

The clutch type diffs we are using in some of our cars cost between 4 & 7 grand each depending on how we specify the clutch types & use.

Only reason our car doesn't tramp is we let off the throttle the moment there is any hint of it. If we tried hard enough you can still get it to tramp, but its difficult.
