  • Golf GT Sport - new addition

    Hi All.

Thought i would most a thread about my new addition, have bought a 2008 Golf GT Sport. We have had a MK3 since new and been very happy with it for last 12 years, so decided it was time to upgrade , (but will keep the MK3 aswell). Got the car from a dealer which has done around 30k kms, leather, tinted windows and bluetooth are the extras on it.

Am very impressed with the car and find the 1.4 TSI engine to be quite amazing, so much torque for this engine.

Also very impressed with the DSG, however after having the car for a week or so was convinced there was something not quite right with it, especially on take off, it jerked and bunny hopped, other that this it is perfect. After lots of searching etc i found that this issue is reported by many others.

Took car back to dealer and asked them to check it out, they said that most likely the mechatronics was gone and they had sent some report to VW. They said 90% that VW would approve it to be replaced under warranty. Since then they have called back and said that VW has approved and the parts are on order.

Cant wait for this to get fixed as it is very painful to drive in traffic, managed to stall the engine today at a set of lights.

Any way i will give an update after it has been replaced and hopefully all will be good.

    Kim.

Great to see yet another GT Sport owner. Your story is similar to mine ( ours is a Jan08 build) as my mechatronics went funny after about 12000 kms. Never got so bad that it stalled tho! Seemed to be worse when the gearbox got up to temperature and on hot days.

After a couple of gearbox resets - that didn't change the behaviour at all, it was agreed that the mechatronics unit was terminally ill. The wait for the replacement mechatronics unit was about 3 weeks - reportedly coming from Germany. They had the car for a day to install and has been all sweet since then. 100% covered by warranty - and they gave me a loaner car for free.

There should be no dramas with warranty unless there is sign of serious abuse (referring to what the factory warranty does not cover).

Ditto on the welcome! My car went all jerky between 1600 and 1900 rpm, but it wasn't the DSG, it was the electrical harness for the supercharger relief valve. All fixed under warranty and no problem since.
