I was in the queue for a Mk6 GTI but it looks unlikley that anything is around that is close to matching my spec.
I am looking at the MkV R32 as a possible alternative to a compromise on a Mk6 GTI tha does not meet requirements. There are still a few of these available at the dealers.
I just had a drive of an R32 for the first time and could not believe the pull from low revs, the sensational exhaust note at higher revs and the quietness at lower revs (I was switching gears between 5th and 6th on the freeway without the radio on and could hardly tell that a shift had occurred without looking at the tacho).
I would be interested in any thoughts on:
(a) What kind of discount off list should I expect for a run-out price?
(b) How do I qualify for corporate discount (this will be a business vehicle) and how much is it?
(c) Are there any major issues with the R32. It is a complex bit of machinery and I am a bit worried that if something goes wrong after warranty it could be very exy to fix. I have searched this forum and others and apart from minor niggles the main issues seem to be oil consumption (especially when new) with some cars using hardly any oil and some using heaps and some problems with the DSG gearbox when selecting reverse or when travelling at very slow speed (jerkiness). I tried to confuse the DSG at low speeds on my test drive but it worked fine. Have any of you longer term owners out there had any major issues? Any major maintenance costs I need to be aware of eg. anything associated with the 4 motion system ?
Thanks in advance for any info.
