  • Stock GTI suspention fitted to a 2.0FSI? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey all, I've just bought an '06 2.0FSI, as its all that I can realistically afford at this point in time.

I've thought about buying an eibach/koni setup, although that doesn't make much sense as I only plan on keeping the car for about 2 years, before buying a Mk6 GTI to replace it, so I don't really want to go and spend 2k on suspension.

What do you guys think about sourcing a GTI spring/shock setup, perhaps from someone on the forum, someone who has upgraded from their stock setup. I know they wont be as good as the eibachs, but they'll be a hell of a lot cheaper, and way better than the comfortline suspension I currently have.

Do you guys think this move is a possible/wise one to make?

    Thanks for your help

    Can't think of any negatives.

There's a guy at vwmkv that is seellling all the bars springs and shocks

I cant say I have driven or been in the FSI but I would suggest you go for a drive in the GTI.
The improvement over the FSI may not be as good as you may want. In the end you could be spending a few hundred on buying and fitting the GTI suspension and not get the improvement you were after.

Maybe a better option is to find used aftermarket sport suspension rather than standard GTI. I dont know how often these come around for sale but its worth investigating in my opinion.

What it all comes down to is how much of an improvemnt were you after and is the money spent equal the results you expect.

It would be an imporvement, but why not get aftermarket, then atleast your handling will be up to the other GTI's who are modded.

My question has to be whats wrong with the standard suspension.
I am always amazed at how quickly any
Golf can be punted around with no negative affects.
Maybe invest your $$$ in an advanced driving course or a premium set of shocks?

When you can afford the whole deal get an GTI or R32 with all the other changes they have too as a complete package?
