  • RCD500 MP3 "Error" Service

Hi there, peoples....Bought a rcd500 mp3 version lastweek and installed it lastnight.
All good except, cd mode comes up with ERROR and servvice underneath it, message on the screen.
My manual for the basic rcd500 says talk to stealers about the issue but hey if there is an answer out there i would appreciate it, the guy that sold it to me is going to have a look at his manual.
deck was out of R32 as the guy replaced with am deck.
He said he did lock it for transport but i cant get the thing to get past the error message.

    Help please......!

Have booked into VW for next friday to have some other things looked at and will try and get them to figure out whats wrong with the deck too....
Guy I bought it from says it was all good when in his car, as to be expected.
I have no doubts thats true Im still hoping someone in watercooled land has had a similar experience with a deck and can tell me more about it.
    Thanks.

        Nismo,

        1. What car was the unit originally installed in?
        2. What are you replacing in your Jetta?

It might be an incompatibility issue with your particular model car and its ECU. Either that, or you've bought a faulty unit offloaded by the original owner.

Compatibilty might be the issue but cant find anything on the subject.
The unit is from an R32 replacing my non mp3 rcd500, everything else works fine with the unit just cant hear any cd mech noises while it does some self checking.
I thought it might be stuck in transport mode, no idea...
          Thanks for the response though.
Here's a pic of the message...

Any ideas anyone... Took the car to Volkspower to hook it up to vag com to see if anything would show up.
I was adv that it is highly likely that its just a string of code that needs to be entered as the code to config the R32 is diff to the Jetta most likely. Without trying to search it up VW has a reatime database that can probably find the code needed to get the thing to work, well fingers fcuk'ing crossed...

unfortunately, it sounds like a Hardware problem to me, rather than a coding issue.

maybe the unit got a little rough handling in the post ?

Tend to agree. I have heard that if these units get droped they can be throw away items.

Well im dropping the car off on friday to replace window buttons that have peeled and to check the rcd, I can assure that I wont be volunteering any info about the rcd except that it doesnt work....Car is under warranty still so if its fooked they can hopefully replace it or I will need to discuss with the seller the outcome and what can be done to rectify the matter. Fingers crossed VW can sort it.....

They will know the RCD is not from your car.

Find out how old the car it was pulled from is as it may still be covered.

Not sure if the local VW dealer will help you however and it may have to go back to the seller to get them to sort out.

Turned out to be a good day after all.....VW dealer changed my flaking window switches, replaced faulty strut bearings and the cherry on top, replaced the faulty RCD500 with a brand spanker all under warranty and didnt charge me for the use of the courtesy car.....

All day I was expecting a call from the dealer telling me nice try...but all I received was an sms to adv me that car is ready for pick up.....woooot.

Deck is great, switches from folder to folder very quickly and skips tracks just as fast...So yeah all in all, a pretty good day...

Just received my MicroCan interface as well from ross-tech, order was only confirmed on tuesday, bloody fast delivery
