  • How satisfied/happy are you with your VW?

I've been a very happy camper since buying my Pirelli.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you rate your satisfaction with the marque?

Still early days for me as my vehicle is still under 5000kms but these are my ratings:

Dealer service and support pre-sale: 1/10
Dealer service and support post-sale: 1/10
    Quality of interior: 8/10
    Quality of exterior: 8/10
    Quality of mechanicals: 8/10
    Fun Factor: 10/10
    Pride of Ownership: 10/10
    Fuel economy: 9/10

Please feel free to add more aspects to the list as you see fit.

I'd probably rate it like this:

Dealer service and support pre-sale: N/A (got car secondhand)
Dealer service and support post-sale: 6/10
    Quality of interior: 5/10
    Quality of exterior: 9/10
    Quality of mechanicals: 9/10
    Fun Factor: 9/10
    Pride of Ownership: 8/10
    Fuel economy: 9/10

Biggest disappointment so far with the Jetta is the crap quality of the interior plastics. Definitely a step down from my 04 Accord Euro, but the performance of the car more than makes up for it.

Need to get my axle tramp resolved ASAP!!! One of the burdens of having a high-powered FWD.

Dogbone mount should help you out considerably, just get ready for a bit of low rpm idling vibration in the cabin.

I've had my Jetta for almost two months (2nd hand - 1 yr old with 18k kms on the clock) now and coming from my 2002 Camry, I can't wipe the smile off my face every time I drive it.
With regard to the interior plastics, the Jetta is so much better than my Camry! To me, the interior is high quality. I guess it's all relative to what you have been previously used to driving.
At this point, my next car will definitely be a VW when my lease runs out!

Thanks bud, but from what I gathered is if you're gonna upgrade engine mounts, you should do them all at the same time to even out the stress on all the mounts.

Also, I'm looking for something which doesn't impact comfort, but I know I'm really fishing for something that doesn't really exist.

I'm gettin the Whiteline Anti-lift kit, hoping that will help, and the stock tyres are running quite thin, so I might swap the rears and the fronts then upgrade to a sports tyre, ala BS Adrenalins, or something along those lines.

That's the way I see VWs. They are a performance focused vehicle and now I can see where the money is going when I buy the car. It's the transmission and the engine, two beautiful pieces of automotive machinery.

When you buy a VW it's definitely not for it's interior styling... It's for an efficient yet satisfying engine and performance which leaves similarly priced jap-made cars in the dust (unless it's a WRX =P)

I think a lot of people will disagree with your view of VW interiors which are very different from the multiple silver button and knob Japanese interiors. Ultimately I guess its a matter of taste. I find the interiors of VWs way ahead in quality compared to most other cars of similar price and I would guess thats how its seen generally across the industry. They are definitely less cluttered with gadgets though a closer inspection shows that they often have more features than those vehicles with 100 buttons and knobs for the radio alone.

This is so strange, because I also think one of the best features of the Jetta, and all Volkswagens in fact, from the days of the MK2 Golf/Jetta,is the interior.
When I changed over from a TS Astra,I often said that the biggest step up was the dashboard.
Nearly 3 years on,I still LOVE the REd,Yellow, and Blue shades at night...

Yes, I too prefer the understated interior of my Golf compared to the cheap plastic and faux Stainless steel/chrome interiors of many a Japanese marque.
The quality of the plastics is a step up from my year old Civic Sport and the new Accord Euro I test drove.

Actually I find the interior of the MkVi a step backwards with the abundance of silver trimming.

I'd have to agree the highlight of a VW is the engine. All of the varients perform so well. The level of detail, function and just the effectiveness of things under my bonnet continues to amaze me. For instance in the TDI the turbo is only oil cooled, and it has a small oil cooler below the oil filter hosing. Upon first looking at it I thought it would do stuff all, then I realised it's actually water cooled, and upon measuring actual oil temps around the engine, does a damn fine job even under load.

FPV and HSV will probably get one of those about 2020, if either still exists.

First dealer quoted $48000 for a 5DR GTI with Sunroof - walked out. This was in June.

The other dealers in Sydney except the one we bought from didn't have time for us - kept us waiting till we walked out.

The dealer know that there aren't many of them and that their cars are popular.

I know that this isn't the problem registry but try to understand some of the problems I have had with the car, VW and the dealer:
                        Dealer
                        * dealer tried to hold on to my trade whilst assessing it so to pressure me into buying
                        * dealer then kept me waiting in the showroom for an hour, again a pressure tactic - I ended up buying through a broker

Car Quality reliability and service quality
                        * 2 x new airconditioners, condensor+compressor that VW only replaced after I discussed the matter with the Office of Fair Trading
                        * 2 x new front shock absorbers. New front suspension mounts
                        * 2 x new rear shock absorbers
                        * new lhr wheel bearing replaced
                        * door seals replaced
                        * oil filter mount leaked (and replaced)
                        * Noisy front brakes when reversing at low speed (a clunk)
                        * clicking sound from aircon that they won't fix
                        * squeak rattle from climate control centre vent
                        * rear door wouldn't unlock (problem when i have kids in the car)
                        * rear window went down when pushed up (problem when remote opening/closing)
                        * paint peeling on bumper that VW and/or the dealer won't repair
                        * black paint around the grill discoloured and VW and/or the dealer won't repair

Despite this, I love my car more than my genitals.

In my case, I love it!!!!!,

Dealer service and support pre-sale: 0/10
Dealer service and support post-sale: 5/10 (Can really improve?, more communication with the client is essential, wich is none, they only let you know how much you have to pay, no better explination, the constantly rotation of people in my case in Five Dock Dealer is shocking, it makes impossible to follow previous issues)
Quality of interior: 9/10 Beautiful armony
Quality of exterior: 8/10 I love the line! the shape, and all,
Quality of mechanicals: 9/10 No issues till now on my 32K
                            Fun Factor: 10/10
                            Pride of Ownership: 10/10
Fuel economy: 9/10 Some weeks I get from my tank about 750K's

I have to mention that a work friend who has an Audi A3 2008 it's very disappointing, yeah! it's turbo, but, no auto lights, no auto wipers, no coming and go funtion, no ipod connection, from my point of view this are essentials for an Audi, that suppose to be on the next category.....

                            Cheers!

Dealer service and support pre-sale: 2/10 Couldnt remember my name or number after 4 meetings with the same sales staff. Didnt return calls, or advise when car was available for test drive. Didnt even have voice mail on mobiles so messages could be left.
Dealer service and support post-sale: 2/10 NO follow up calls even when dealer had caused damage to our car, still waiting after 9 weeks for replacement internal panels! Its a merry-go-round of staff here too, the service staff have been gutted. Only the sales staff seem to be immune from the axe.
Quality of interior finish: 8/10 It looks great and feels luxurious, uncluttered elegance....however -
Quality of interior FIT: 5/10 More rattles than a creche....and part of the drivers seat leather lining is now dangling around under the front of the seat, feels like a long plastic clip has come away from a seat rail.... after 10,000kms!
Quality of exterior: 7/10 A mixture of styles, nice stance with the lower suspension, and VERY unassuming looking car. Would not attract carjackers.
Quality of mechanicals: 10/10 No issues after 10,000ks, sounds beautiful and goes like a scalded cat....however-
Quality of electrical equipment: 5/10 CD player stopped ejecting after very little use, car battery then ran flat after 4 days sitting, no fault found after VW attached diagnostic unit to the vehicle.. just bs about 'if not driven regularly it can happen', cranked over perfectly one day, four days later it was so flat it couldnt operate the interior light! Which is a bit of a problem as the battery is locked inside the boot, so jump starting is somewhat of an artform.
Fun Factor: 10/10 - definitely, handles like a (fat) motorbike
Pride of Ownership: 9/10 Would be a ten except for the foibles. And even these could be accepted if the dealer made an effort resolve problems quicker.
Fuel economy: 9/10 Quite capable of 10kms per litre in day to day use (better on a trip), far better than most cars of similar performance.

Would i recommend buying a new VW to anybody? categorically NO, not here anyway. If they KNEW of a dealer they could trust to provide basic warranty and scheduled servicing properly then perhaps.
The car is an excellent piece of engineering, the problem is the lack of a confidence in the service team detracts from the ownership experience.
I cannot trust our local dealership to diagnose faults properly, or return our car in unmarked condition, neither can they be trusted to charge a fair and reasonable price for scheduled servicing.

Seems like there is an opening in this big city for anybody with a bit of customer service nouse to open a competing VW dealership, as we all know, the cars sell themselves.
