Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Motor Magazine Tuner Challenge

Long time reader, but my first post...

Just picked up my copy of Motor magazine with the Tuner Challenge in it. Was looking forward to seeing it as I knew that the APR GTI was going to be in it.

What a pleasant suprise it was to see no fewer than 4 VWs there! That's an amazing 20% of the cars!

I know we all have our brand bias, but congratulations to the folks at Rennenhaus, Evolve Technik, Harding Performance & City Performance Centre for showing the bent-eight brigade what can be achieved with a mighty VW!

I so want the R32 that came third. Considering the vastly lower cost than the two Porsches (even if it were $120k, which apparently it wasn't), I think that's an excellent achievement.
    Nothing to see here...

its a bit more involving for that.

pretty sure that included the upgraded clutch packs. and all the TCU had to be removed from the car and shipped to HPA in canada to flash.

Yep, you're right. I had a long conversation with the tuners last week who confirmed this. This was a pretty much over the top tune. Also the power figures in the mag were not right, as power was well over 300KW.

I expect to be heading over to Sydney at the end of the year to check out the R32 and speak with the owner and look at options for my R32.

Although the build was an additional $70k, you should get away with less than half that for a modest bump in power perhaps 260-270KW.

Good thing to note, apparently HPA have never has a failure with their systems, they are apparently quite reliable.

The owner of the white R32 has so far taken his car to numerous track days and long trips up the coast and has reported no issues at all.

Impressive stuff. In my opinion that was the best "every day" car at the gathering.

Even the judges voted it number 1.

Hmmm, if that is the case and the dyno was that far out, imagine what kind of figures the purple monster SS was putting out!!

was to do with the car running DSG and the operator apparently not being able to dyno the car...

Do a search over on GolfMkv ... APMitchell74 is the guy who owns the car, posts regularly over there...

Was the 300 based on power at the flywheel as Motor was using power at the wheels??

Thanks Motor - Proud VW owner

When I turned the pages of Motor to see all those VW's I was soooo excited. Excited to see them and excited that many bogans who are ignorantly biased toward their pushrod people movers would also be brought back down to earth.

Not sure on the APR Golfs 1/4 mile time though, they must have just side stepped the clutch at redline??? And lets not forget the potential that the Polo delivered!

And dont get me started on that SATANIC twin turbo R32, the definition of car porn it was.

It's actually not twin turbo, Only the 1 turbo (One of many errors published).... He's looking to put another one on soon I believe...
