Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine Light has come on 1.4 TSI

    G'day everyone,

    Long time between posts.

On saturday I was driving along when all of a sudden my engine light came on.

I called VW Roadside assistance where the chick asked which colour it was. (I thought it would be only one colour) but she said it can be either Yellow, Orange or Red.

In my case it was Orange? Anyway she said that it is fine and just keep driving. If it turns red, call back and she will organise a tow truck.

Anyway, it didn't change colour (as I still believe it doesn't change colour). I read the book and it says it has something to do with the exhaust gas temp. I thought it may be crap fuel so I filled up with Ultimate 98 this morning, still the light is on.

I will get it to a mates workshop this arvo and get him to plug it into his snap on scanner but has anyone had this problem and if so what was the fix?

    Cheers

does the snap-on scanner work on our cars?

i suggest you use vag-com which is designed to work with our cars.

im guessing it could be a faulty oxygen sensor.

I have used it before to get codes and reset the service light etc. So yes.

Under warranty?? If so, I would go and get it scanned and repaired for free by VW. Could be any number of faults.

          Ok, I got the code.

P0444 - Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open.

Whatever that is! Anyway I will be calling VW in the morning and getting it in.

            Check your fuel cap

Could be a loose fuel cap. If so fault should clear itself within a few starts.

Mine did that on Day One.
But mine was also in Limp Home Mode (<3000 rpm) - very inconvenient, as I was half way between Adelaide and Malbum.
The wallies at the stealers took a week to tell me it was an a/c fault code (sounds the same as yours).
They reset it and that was 2 years ago.

haha Polar, nah no leather mate.

I read on the e46 forums (after googling that code) that most people disconnect their battery with their fuel cap off, reconnect and then tighten the fuel cap and it is fixed. I guess it is worth a shot?

The tow truck picked it up this morning and Bunbury VW have already fixed it! Hi Faive!

Turns out there was a broken wire according to the service advisor. Will find out more when I get there to pick it up on Saturday.

Boo to VW making me pay $60 excess in getting it to Bunbury as they wanted to take it to Ossie Park VW *shudder*

P.S nothing wrong with Sales at OPVW, I will buy another car from them in a heart beat, however getting it serviced there, different story!
