  • Diff between MY06 & MY07 GTI?

I am looking to buy either an MY06 or MY07 Golf GTI. Whats the diff between MY06 and MY07?

Anyone know? Or were there no changes whatsoever?

there were very few changes between those two years from memory.
Very First GTIs in the country had a slightly different engine which makes less power and active headrests.

From MY08 all GTIs had the full height display on the dash where previous years had. THey also had the mp3 compatible head unit or RNS510 if you optioned satnav.

There were other differences not i cant think of anything significant. Just small things like different buttons on the steering wheel. Material inserts on the inner side bolster instead of full leather. There was a thread on here somewhere with all the differences. I cant seem to find it though

If i were in the market id consider stretching to an MY08. At least that way you still have a bit of warranty left just in case someone is offloading a troublesome car

whats your budget? From what ive seen there are usually a few cheapish 07 build MY08 cars about.

Around 30K. Is it just me being tight, or are GTI owners a bit optimistic with asking prices? It's not like a few years ago where demand far exceeded supply.

According to Redbook (high Private seller price) a 2nd hand manual 5 door 06 MY07 in good nick is $28K and a good 08 MY08 is $32K.

There's a current ad for 08 MY08 DSG asking $42K! May as well buy new for that money. Lowest asking for MY08 in Sydney is $35K.

I know there is always haggling, but these sellers are starting waaay too high. There is no way I will pay those prices.

              • Depending on when the MY07 was built it will have slightly different buttons on the steering wheel.
              • Also the active head restraints in the front seats were deleted.
              • Silver buttons on the stereo/nav units.
              • Oh, and they removed two unnecessary doors on the best MY07 models, haha.

Think that pretty much covers it. As noted the first major change was the introduction of the full height MFD from MY08 onwards. Buggers!

                Tim,

                What are active headrests?

                TIA

i believe they are a system that responds to a rear impact. Helps save the occupant from whiplash.

Not sure how the mkv ones work exactly but i have seen some demonstrations from other manufacturers that use the occupants weight being pushed back in the seat during the impact to push the headrest upwards and forward counteracting the rearward head movement
