    Sorry,

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I will try each one out. Hopefully one of them is the culprit. Problem is, I need someone ELSE to drive the R32 while I sit in the back listening for the rattle.

Haha, i thought the same quite a few times. But i would prefer the windows downs, roof open and blast it, after all, I bought this thing based mostly on its exhaust soundtrack.

I had this exact same thing on mine, which was the outer pillar cover.. when i pushed against the glass it went away. Took ages to find as it's a fairly faint but annoying ticking sound.. when i opened the door i could see that where the metal wraps around it was sitting a bit close at one point along the vertical part of the door frame.

        I'd try that.

G-rig, I'm just a bit confused. You mention the outer pillar cover - do you mean B or C pillar covers?- because you go on to mention the door and glass further on... Can you please clarify that for me thanks.

I've got a rattle somewhere around the rear passenger door. It's driving me nuts. I've also got a squeak in the driver's door. I can stop that by wedging my fingers in the door. There is also more wind noise at speed from the window frame. The door might need adjusting.

I took it to the dealer a couple of months ago as there was a loud squeal coming from the rear passengers side. Turned out the seat wasn't locked in properly. So I'm too embarrassed to take it back at the moment

I notice that the rear parcel shelf/rubber balls it hangs on like to make a good knock noise when you go over a dip / speed hump.

I was thinking of using a small amount of velcro with double sided tape to make the lifting of the parcel shelf more resistant to gravity..

Anyone got any other solution for this one?

I did that, seems to work. I also took off the rubber balls.

                    You are not alone!

Our '07 3 door has similar door panel (and general cabin) rattle issues, and frankly i would not bother having a dealer frig around with it. A simple fix on a broken CD player resulted in dealer damage to fascia panels on our car, we are still waiting over two months later for replacement. God knows what would happen if they had to pull the whole dash off - or the interior trim panels!

I have to say it was disappointing to find the cabin to be such a rattlefest in the R32, really didnt expect that. I have noticed pressing on the door panel changes the noises - ie you can then hear other rattles even more!! The noises would be easier to take if it was a 15k Kia, and our 7 year old Subaru doesnt have anywhere near the amount of buzzes and rattles.

I imagine that the majority of city buyers would not inflict too many rough roads on their R32s - so they may not necessarily notice the rattles much. We are on the city fringe so although its all bitumen there are ripples and culverts to travel every time we drive. Once our car hits smooth bitumen its very quiet, its secondary roads that really get the rattles going.

Stuffed if i can understand how this model could be so poorly noise damped, even the cheaper model Passat had a far quieter interior over our roads than our R32.

jausho: thanks for posting that door pic, that may help me to diagnose some of our noises, particularly if it can be caused by be poorly seated clips.

yes, I have rattles in my GOLF MK6 as well. The rattle from somewhere around steering wheel. I took my car to the local dealer THREE times!!! But, the rattle is till there. However, I have found where is the rattle from. I will try to fix it by myself this weekend.

                      Dealer is hopeless!!!

                        Thanks G-rig.

Is the pillar cover the piano black plastic bit? If it is, I have 2 questions :

                        1. How can you see it's sitting close? I can "feel" the gap between the cover and the door, all along the vertical part of the door frame?

                        2. What do you do to fix it?
