Rotated the tyres on my GTI for the first time the other day and noticed that the OEM lock nut and key seem very standard. Im guessing it is the same for all GTI's (perhaps all VW's even)? If this is the case, it doesn't seem very secure. Are others replacing their lock nut with something a little more unique? Or am I just paranoid? Do thieves consider the Denver's valuable enough to take?

GTI OEM Wheel Lock Nut

I lost mine locknut key when I got new wheels (must have left it in the wheel bolt) and according to the dealer there are 35 combinations I believe.
Thieves probably don't find them too attractive when many cars nowadays come out with 17 or 18" rims as standard and their is probably a much bigger black market for Commodore/Falcon/Skyline/BMW etc rims. Even if there were more combinations it wouldn't bother a thief with the right technique.
I found one of my previous cars in the driveway on blocks with no nuts removed, they were either disturbed or couldn't be bothered with the factory locknuts. Pretty dumb really to get that far into it then realise!MY08 Blue Graphite GT TSI DSG
