  • brake Pad replacement

Alright guys, car went in today for its 30,000km service. All good

however they advised ive got about 4-5mm left on my rear pads, so they will need replacing by next service. I hate the stock ones, always dusty which in turn makes my brakes squeek. A gripe ive had since day 1 with the car

So what brake pads are out there, what are you using and how do you find them?

Unfortunately since asbestos was banned, dust and performance are fairly mutually exclusive. The rear pads on the Jetta aren't made by QFM in HPX (which is always our first pick in a dust free performance pad), but we could get them custom made if you've got time on your side.

HPX (Bendix Ultimate equivalent) in a custom job, is $119 for the axle set, and about 5-6 weeks. Something like an RDA or GCT will also be low dust (and very cheap), but you're really sacrificing performance, and will be less than OEM...

The only other option I'd recommend would be a European made Remsa pad. Very similar in performance to a Lucas or your OEM, and *should* be slightly less dusty than the later. $94 for the axle set.

Sick of paying too much for performance brake pads? Want high performance with low rotor wear?

Thanks GSL, with the time until replacement i do have time on my side. I will prob order front and rears once i decide which track.

I just cant handle the squeeking...i didnt pay that much money for a car (well alot to me anyway) to have it squeek at every set of light. VW told me to drive it harder - haha considering it is worse when im stopping at slow speeds on slopes.

I might just start the process in getting some custom made so they're here for next time anyway... Those rears suit quite a vew VW, Audi, etc. so probably worth our while having a few here.

And you're right, in this day and age, any car more than a Barina is too much to be paying for a car with issues. They are (sort of) right though, alot of brake noise issues are fixed permenately by floggind the crap out of the car for a short period of time...
