  • Changing brake light globe - Newb 101

    Hi all,

So one of my brake lights went out the other day. (left one on the outside of the circle)..

So i open up the boot pull away the interior trim and i am surprised to see a tiny hole with a single wiring jack plugged into it..

This doesnt look very user friendly at all..

Even my 1991 Honda CRX has the a nice removable compartment with nice click and remove globes and wiring harness's. Not to mention it even has a spot to put a spare globe right next to the existing one! Brilliant.

Though my Golf MkV seems to not be user friendly at all.

Anyone tell me how i replace this? Or got a diagram?

I did try and disconnect the wiring jack where it said "OPEN" on it. Though couldnt even pull it off.

    Little help?

    Thanks!

Use a flathead screwdriver with a piece of yellow chamois over it and push the light blue tab away from the socket - it will click out. You will need to use a bit of force to push it (but not too much!). The chamois is so that you don't scratch anything.

Hi Guys, Gurus. I feel pretty dopey asking this, but can somehow point me in the right direction to remove the far left brake light compartment so I can access the burnt out bulb? I've had a look on the forum and not too confident in getting it done and not sure of how much force? Thanks in...

can both globes be bought from vw service? as in, just rock on up and buy them?

also, does this reset the MFD error?

Just make sure you buy the long life bulb or it will fail soon after fitting.

N0177328 is the part number. ~$2.50 each.

And yes, the cold lamp diagnostics will detect the globe is working and the error will go away.

German cars are built to have this complicated parts that aren't user friendly, they made parts really hard to access and the dealership is the only place to get it fixed.
