    Hi All,

    My partner and i just bought an 06 JETTA FSI - there are so many different variants of the golfs/jettas and i just wanted to know what the difference is between a FSI and TSI - ? I have been told that the TSI is turbocharged and supercharged.... Is this correct?

    Again sorry for my ignorance, i have only just began dabbling with the dubs in the last few months. Previous was into Jap Ricers.

    Welcome to the light

    The badge nomenclature changes every year but TSI originally meant twincharged. Now it's kinda like petrol really.

    FSI is petrol but meansd "Fuel Stratified Injection" which means direct injection.

    But they all use direct injection now so doesn't make much difference.

        Its a much more efficient way to inject fuel, so yeah a bit more power is to be had by exact timing and such.

        one thing that wasnt thought about though was that since there is no longer fuel to clean the valves they are starting to get dirty

        FSI = direct injection

        TSI = forced induction direct injection (whether it be turbo and supercharger, supercharger alone or turbo alone)

        thats VW's official line. they dont say Fuel Stratified Injection anymore because its not that. Fuel Stratified Injection was the idea that the combustable mixture is created only in the very center of the combustion chamber and the edges of the chamber were too lean to burn, making it really fuel efficient.
        This caused too much heat and alot of stuff caught fire in the very very beginning of it being used, so it was very quickly changed to a homogenous lean mixture which means the whole mixture in the combustion chamber is actually combustible. technically not as good on fuel economy compaired to a stratified mixture but still alot more efficient than port (non direct) injection.

          Don't forget TDI

          Also, different coloured letters mean different things. Red means power, blue/green mean environmentally friendly.
