Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

No, I'm describing a very different problem to the supercharger squeak. That's a separate issue altogether.

As creniac said, it's intermittent. My noise is accompanied by a plume of unburnt fuel... and the 3rd time it happened my car also broke down & had to be towed.

In that case an injector port was replaced, but I can't say it solved the problem cos last weekend my car did the click & fuel plume 3 times - as opposed to the previous record of 3 times in 3 months.

Guys, it seems a guy with a polo GTI has just experienced a similar clicking to my Jetta from the same side (right hand).... I tried again today to get it to do it again but no issues.... wierd?? CK, I see your query about plumes of smoke, loss of power... in my case no not at all, just this intermittent metallic clicking /creaking noise which i last heard on Sunday.... I am starting to wonder if it's something else if a Polo driver just experienced a similar noise??? suspension, bushes front wheel bearings...... who knows.????????????????

Is yours a DSG or manual? I'm thinking it might be specific to 1.4 TSI with a DSG and could either be an ECU problem in co-ordinating the engine/supercharger with the DSG.... or it could be the clutch plates for the supercharger engaging & disengaging as per an earlier reply (i.e. not engaging properly once & for all).

There's no loss of power when it happens to me. I got my car back on Tuesday from VW and they couldn't replicate it. Lo & behold the problem was back on Thursday night. The car runs smoothly in general though.

Hey CK, Why implicate the ECU, Have you heard of occam's razor? Whats wrong with Polarbears simple explanation fingering the friction plate return, from what I assume is a VW tech manual?

Also having the same problem with my Mk6 118tsi. Took it in, they replaced the water pump without even looking at it (has the clutch on it) The noise went away fro a while but now it's back... But rarely happens, before it might happen a couple of times a week, now it's only around once or twice a month... annoying and they power output misbehaves when it does it. But unless it gets worse again I can't be bothered, give it to bill buckle and your car gets returned with nothing done and a big NO FAULT FOUND on the reciept.
