Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes there is BUT as stated pads do not always wear straight or even from side to side.
    Noise should always be investigated.

I have found that the rears wear out faster than the fronts on Mk5s by the way.
Yes, the pad wear sensor is only on the lhf.

I find a mexican tune up for brakes works wonders if it is just a contaminant causing the squeel.

Eg go fast.... hit brakes hard down to zero.

If you do it in a supercharger jaguar from about 240 you should have white smoke pouring out the front brakes by the time you skid to a halt. The next day you may get asked by the owner "Hey, after u drove my car last night the brakes don't squeel anymore"

I guess warped rotors don't squeal?

warped rotors would be noticeable every time you apply the brakes.
you would feel pulsing through the pedal. kinda like abs feeling, but not as strong.

I've also recently replaced my front brake pads and discs at 46k, after my 45k service at a different mechanic's. I didn't have any squeal noise at the time but the warning light came on in the MFD, which I found it to be very convenient (although I was already told to replace them previously). Anyway I was just wondering whether my newly replaced pads have the sensors (on the left one?) to indicate the need for replacement of them in the future. I was told they are non-genuine brake pads and discs made in Europe. Do these ones have sensors on them too? Just curious..

                  Most pads do.
                  The odd ones dont.
Have a look behind left front wheel and ensure plug is plugged into the sensor.
