One of the (few) advantages
It's no fun getting old... But once over 55 you can get cheaper insurance. I pay $380 per year for the Mk5 TDI with Australian Pensioners.
Shannons offered to throw in my Mk1s at a slightly higher cost. If I remember correctly it was ~ $30 more per year.

Having just had my wifes car being repaired for 2 months by AAMI, and having to drop it back in on Monday for remedial work. I can't say I'd recommend them, poor attitude, slack customer service, and the worst excuses I've ever heard.
Wouldn't insure my mother in law's car with them.

Wouldn't insure my mother in law's car with them.Originally posted by TrickyFunny how people have different experiences with the same company... my wife had a minor ding in her car and AAMI's service was exceptionally good. The quality of the repair work depends on who ends up quoting the lowest price amongst their approved repairers, so bit of pot luck I guess. Most of the repairers are used by most of the insurers, as far as I can tell.
In my exeperience with AAMI, both car and house related claims, they have been very good to deal with. I initially took the MINI's insurance to Shannons because I thought they would be more mod friendly. Since then however, I've seen AAMI pay out a write-off on a MINI that had pretty much the same mods that my MINI has. The owner of that MINI bought his car 2nd hand and had his car inspected with AAMI prior to insuring with them, so all the mods were up front. The key here is being up front with your insurer. If you don't try and sneak anything past them you should be fine.
The main reasons we don't have the GTI or MINI with AAMI now are the fact that they do not offer a free windscreen claim per year, and the choice of repairer. But as I said, my first hand experience with them has been very good.

I have to agree the AAMI claim process was painless when i had a harley run into the back of my subaru. Free taxi home or to work FTW.
However i'm thinking of changing insurer. I'm paying $1160 in Northwest sydney at the moment but we are house hunting for a new place in Sydney's inner west. Rough web estimates for the new suburb are runing at $1600- $1800 depending on the exact suburb.
Just goes to show that the suburb you live in has a majour impact on the premium.
Might be time to sell the subie if im going to end up paying an extra $1000+ a year for two cars just because we changed suburb.
