      One of the (few) advantages

It's no fun getting old... But once over 55 you can get cheaper insurance. I pay $380 per year for the Mk5 TDI with Australian Pensioners.

Shannons offered to throw in my Mk1s at a slightly higher cost. If I remember correctly it was ~ $30 more per year.

My Mk1, 1979. I went for third party property ...$175. Full comprehensive $210! Go figure. Postcode 4873 (far north qld), full no claims, all insurance (house, boat etc.) with nrma, and I have turned 30 twice now

Having just had my wifes car being repaired for 2 months by AAMI, and having to drop it back in on Monday for remedial work. I can't say I'd recommend them, poor attitude, slack customer service, and the worst excuses I've ever heard.

Wouldn't insure my mother in law's car with them.

Funny how people have different experiences with the same company... my wife had a minor ding in her car and AAMI's service was exceptionally good. The quality of the repair work depends on who ends up quoting the lowest price amongst their approved repairers, so bit of pot luck I guess. Most of the repairers are used by most of the insurers, as far as I can tell.

My MINI used to be insured with AAMI. Three weeks after I picked up the car I hit a kangaroo. Fortunately the damage wasn't that bad and the repair has given no problems. However, with AAMI, they only sourced two quotes. One was from a repairer I nominated. From what I can remember customers are able to nominate a repairer for the quoting process. Although AAMI has the final decision on who gets the work. This does not necessarily mean it will go to the cheapest quote, but, I think their terminology is "best fit". So, if two companies quote on two different methods of repair, the work would most likely go to the repairer that AAMI deems to be the best and most complete repair, given that they guarantee the repairs for the life of the car. I admit I was lucky that my choice of repairer was chosen for the work, but all in all the process was as painless as could be expected.

In my exeperience with AAMI, both car and house related claims, they have been very good to deal with. I initially took the MINI's insurance to Shannons because I thought they would be more mod friendly. Since then however, I've seen AAMI pay out a write-off on a MINI that had pretty much the same mods that my MINI has. The owner of that MINI bought his car 2nd hand and had his car inspected with AAMI prior to insuring with them, so all the mods were up front. The key here is being up front with your insurer. If you don't try and sneak anything past them you should be fine.

The main reasons we don't have the GTI or MINI with AAMI now are the fact that they do not offer a free windscreen claim per year, and the choice of repairer. But as I said, my first hand experience with them has been very good.

I have to agree the AAMI claim process was painless when i had a harley run into the back of my subaru. Free taxi home or to work FTW.

However i'm thinking of changing insurer. I'm paying $1160 in Northwest sydney at the moment but we are house hunting for a new place in Sydney's inner west. Rough web estimates for the new suburb are runing at $1600- $1800 depending on the exact suburb.

Just goes to show that the suburb you live in has a majour impact on the premium.

Might be time to sell the subie if im going to end up paying an extra $1000+ a year for two cars just because we changed suburb.

I just took out a policy for my newie '95 VR6 with RACWA, $550.

25, im a total road angel, good suburb (6023) and a carport for it to sleep under at night.

                    Not bad?

Got a quote for the R32 at $1050 through the leasing company, but ended up going through AAMI at $955 including a rental car (hopefully won't need it ...)

I'm 32, the missus 33, postcode 2061, both excellent driving records.
