Yeah, mk4 owners may want a certain amount (like 40k but doesn't mean they'll get it), and most people want something newer and with less km so no reason not to get a mk5 now.

On average a IVR32 goes for 25k, anything above that, with the exception of something like that supercharged R32 in Perth is unreasonable.

The prices on the MKV's are crashing as well, good news for some people like me though

As workin for a wholesaler....its a rough time to buy and sell!

A Mk4 in years to come will hard price alot better than a Mk5....The limited numbers made on particular cars the better the future

But the chassis and technology isn't

Just kidding, still love that shape and the OEM wheels and think they look a bit tougher..

Harder to sell one that's been thrown around the track with too many mods as well.

Chassis yes. Technology wise only if you get DSG.
Haldex Gen2 is better than Gen1 yes but it's not like it's leaps and bounds.

However an interesting thing to note is that the first time DSG was used was in the MkIV R32 in Germany. This was the car it debuted on for the entire VAG brands. No one noticed it though due to the small numbers and the fact that the R32 was just awesome anyway. When it was introduced into the Audi TT 3.2, then the DSG song and dance began.

The US spec MkIVs actually came with the DSG MAF which meant that they had slightly more power than ours and the Euro spec ones.

Not quite MkV section related but conversation kind of related to the topic and discussion.

It looks like ~1100 is the best we will be able to do.

              Cheers,

                  I didn't even get a DSG .

Kind of assumed all stuff like auto lights, wipers, mfd stuff and addons like nav/bluetooth and MDI would all be new to the mk5 but don't exactly know much about MK4's.

I know that the MK4 R32 had a tape deck in it from the factory.

Ok I thought we were just talking about technology as in the chassis, engine and drivetrain.

Stuff like the interior and that kind of thing has advanced to a degree. Once again the European and/or German MkIV R32s came with a full FIS instrument cluster.
They also had a full satnav and bluetooth setup. Whilst not as new and fancy as the RNS510 this is was not available until later in the MkV lifecycle anyway.
Due to the backwards nature of Aus though of course we didn't get these as options (or a sunroof as well).
Things can always be retrofitted though.

As for Aus delivered ones we got auto wipers, Xenons, MFD cluster, climatronic, six stacker 8 speaker Gamma sound system with cassette deck as well. The last bit is laughable yes but for a stock sound system it is still pretty damn good.
Really the only thing missing aside from what I said above is automatic lights.

Oh yeah we also go two reverse lights.

The big but/however bit though seems to be coming back to the MkV interior quality. I like the interior but quality issues and VWs own admission have put a real dampener on the whole model range.

That said I prefer the slightly more claustrophobic enclosed cockpit feel of the MkIV. Puts in the car more. The Konigs do help with this though and I'm sure the optional Recaros would help with the MkV likewise.

                      Cheers,

VW has certainly taken off in recent years sales wise and is now a good brand compared to the old days (ie audi, saab, vw were never that good compared to BMW, Merk etc).

I still don't think it has the same level of luxury and feel as Audi but its also hard to stomach paying 10k more for the Audi equivalent and everything will be more expensive (parts, servicing & bad depreciation).

Agree with you that there are some quirks and build issues with the mk5 but most are sorted out under warranty, but still need to fix a rattle or two myself (mostly from getting after market hifi gear in but the rear tail lights on the hatch are known to rattle and the design of the top vent is a pretty bad design with so many creaky parts.. But most can be fixed with a bit of DIY effort or warranty, still a pita though!

Yeah they all got their quirks/little niggly faults. The MkIV was not immune either.
