Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What to check, ask, lookout for before taking delivery

    Hi,

My new 118TSI Jetta would be delivered soon. Since I am not too familiar with cars and this will be my 1st new car purchase (had bought a used car before), I need your help.

I want to make a check list of things I need to check in the car, ask the dealer and warning signs to look out for. I don't want to accept a car which has faults at the very start.

Can you please help me compile a list? Also when the dealer say "it is supposed to do that or it will improve/fix over time", is that really the case or he just wants me to accept the car?

LIST : Things to check / test

    LIST : Things to ask

LIST : Things which improve / fix over time

Also if you could share your bad experiences when you took the delivery of your car, that will be extremely helpful.

    Thanks Folks

        1. Check every electrical function your car has with ignition key in ACC position.
        2. Check how panels are fitted - your warranty for panel placement and GAPS is only 1,000 or 1,500 km. Check all doors, tailgate, bonnet gaps. Check how doors are closing - check for sound.
        3. Check paperwork for owner details, vin numbers matching etc
        4. Check paintwork - outside and inside
        5. Enjoy your drive!
