Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Should my Jetta me me know when my washer fluid runs out?? I went to pull the lever the other day and all that came through was air! Then today I filled it up and it worked as usual. My old Mk4 had a both a light and an acoustic warning so it seems strange I got nothing on a Mk5...

    Thanks,

    Alex

Ok thanks Cam.. Perhaps there's no issue with my sensor then..

        Hey Maca,

I am of the understanding that only if you have xenon headlamps will you have a sensor. I queried this with my dealer as the manual is a little ambiguous about which model has the warning sensor.

        Cheers,

        Neil.

Really? That's really strange. But thanks

Just weird that (as I mentioned above) that my Mk4 let you know as soon as the fluid was low.

          Thanks again

            My Friend,

I found this doc on the net,

            http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/VW/Misc...SSP_873403.pdf

Check on the Power Supply pages, it seems it should have audible and screen alarms,

            Cheers!

As pointed out only if the bi-xenons are fitted. The tank is larger 5 litres as opposed to the 3.5 litres without bi-xenons.

Of course checking how much is in there could be part of your regular under bonnet inspections

I'm putting a sensor in mine, given it's now hooked up to my intercooler spray as well. I'll let you know if the sensor idea works, it's the old jaycar kit, two wires into the fluid, and when the connection is broken by falling water level, the alarm goes off, where I think a nice blue LED would do nicely.

Have you got an aftermarket FMIC? Or are you just spraying the air con condensor? Or are the TDI's different to the GTI's?

I'm spraying the air con condensor area, and subsequently the stock intercooler which is right behind that. TDI and GTI all the same, and the stock unit is very efficient from my normal road testing, ( stock the GT TDI is putting 30psi or so into it. ) Sorry for the hijack.

True but the isn't the tank under the RHS headlight? Don't judge me but I barely every conduct these "under bonnet inspections"..

Yep, and it's indeed 3.5L with stock headlights, and there's nothing apart from the motor on mine that I could see. Maca shame on you, under the bonnet is all that matters!

Haha true! I've gotta get into the habit of doing some routine checks of oil etc etc.

                          Thanks to all that replied!!

I can't see the level of the washer fluid in the tank, I've run out twice now. Mum's old non-Xenon 2007 Passat flashed a message on the MFD when it was low. Annoying they decided non-Xenon Mk Vs don't need an indicator.
