As 85turbo pointed out it's around $100 in parts + time to install.

Personally I'd go down the path of the after market (not often I'll say that) over the oem as it's much more accurate and useful. If you look at my site (link above) you'll see it installed in the "ashtray" of the golf, the lid closes up and it's a clean install. The unit beeps if it goes outside it's programmed parameters to alert you to check.

The above are the parts required.

Thanks Jason, Your link to the button in your Orig Post was wrong so I just corrected it in the quoted link just above in case anyone else wants it.

Now just have to check that the MK5 bits will fit a MK6 and see if I can find a diagram to explain what connector goes where.

not sure if it's the same for a Mk6 or not.....

i was going to go down the oem route, but have now decided to use the more accurate type.
from what i have read, installing the oem setup is fairly straightforward.
one end of the harness plugs into the switch, the other end plugs in to the ABS controller under the bonnet.

once that's done, you have to tell the controller (via VAG-COM) that you have installed the TPMS system.

        Jason.

Interesting. Was just reading some install instructions for fitting the button to the VW Rabbit. Appears to be the same system and a poster there implies the button may be nice to have but unnecessary.

Given that the buttons function is to reset or calibrate a system which is already in place, I am now questioning if it is actually necessary for the system to work. I wonder if it is really possible to acivate the system via VAG-COM and use it without the reset or calibration button? The dash warning light is still there to alert, when one wheel speed is of spec. Assuming tyres are evenly inflated when system is activated and one was diligent to keep tyre pressures even this might work? While I ponder this I am chasing up MK5/MK6 commonality for these parts.
... and BTW, I agree the after market system is probably better any many respects.

im not sure it will work without the button.
as anytime you did get a flat, or even lost a few psi, you would have to go back in with VCDS / Vag-Com and reset it.

that (if it worked at all) would get old, really quickly.

in the mean time, i scored a direct TPMS today for the cost of a case of beer !
ill be picking it up on the weekend..... (it's not the same brand as the one in the original post, but it's the same functionality)

now all i have to do is organise to get it installed.....

            Jason.
