Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My MFD has re-set itself!!!

    Well ...

I probably reset it but I have no idea how.

I've been driving Madam Jetta for over 13,000kms now and I had the economy down to 5.1 (trying to catch up to a work colleague in diesel Peugeot on 4.7) and now it's back to 5.5 over only 495kms.

    Where did I go wrong?

The MFD holds 2 average fuel readings

    1. Avg fuel consumption per trip, the display has a small "1" on the top right of the value

    2. Avg fuel consumption since the MFD was last reset, has a small "2" on the top right

You press the OK button to toggle between the two readings. Holding the OK button down for a few seconds will reset the no. "2" reading.

Note that memory (2) resets itself after 99.9 hours, so if you are using it for "lifetime" stats on av speed, av fuel consumption, time & distance travelled etc that's not what you are actually getting once you have driven for 100 hours or more.

Even if you lived in the NT, 13,000km at an average speed of 130kmh is 100 hours, so your memory 2 would have reset itself at least once by now (and if you do lots of suburban driving it may have been the second reset that has just happened 13,000km / 65kmh = 200 hrs).

If you want some accurate fuel consumption figures, calculate by using the fill to fill method, VW MFDs are notoriously optimistic.

You didn't read the manual when you purchased the car, it's not too late so grab it from the glovebox and spend a few hours learning about your car
