Car was repaired today...wheel bearing was the culprit. Also, they found another noise in the rear - worn shock absorbers, its gotta go back, but at least popping/clunking sound is goneComment

Yeah guys this seems to be a common thing.. My first golf (2005 trendline 1.6) and my new golf (GTI Pirelli) BOTH do exactly the same thing, and they both did it from new..
Put it in reverse.. Move back, put on the brakes and "CLUNK"... Keep moving back and apply the brakes, no clunk..... Only does it once.. Until you move forward again....
Very very annoying..
I think it's something to do with the rear brake assembly and not the suspension (mine has been replaced with KWs on the Pirelli).
It might even be pads slipping in the calipers? Dunno.. Very annoying though.Comment

I have the same thing on the passenger side. Unnerving. I also have a squeak when going over speedbumps in the front struts that needs attention. Sad as it is only on 40K.Comment

No leaks or other signs of wear but excessivly bouncy compared to new.
