  • Aaaaaarh what the hell is this noise ??

Hi everyone, names Shaun and im new to the forum.
We've had our MkV GTI Golf for a couple of months now and absolutely love it but theres one sh*t of a noise thats really doing my head in
Its a knock, knock, knocking from the front passenger side floor, sounds like its coming from up behind the glovebox or somewhere in that region.

If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

is it continuous? Does it always happen? Does it only happen when the AC is on?

If it just happens intermittently and when the AC is on it might be the solenoids that are making the sound, it which case this is 'normal'

It's coming from the wrong area but it sounds like the fuel pipe problem. Do a search on here and golfmarkv.com for the full rundown and how to diagnose it.

i think i have a similar noise in my jetta... only seem to hear it at standstill and whilst the car is warming up. never notice it once temps are up to normal operating range so i just figured it was something that's changing/moving/expanding/shrinking etc when warming up. its coming from the passenger side somewhere behind the dash/glovebox region.

I have the exact same noise however mine appear to be coming from the drivers side footwell. Somewhere behind the bulk head.

Is this the location for the fuel pipe problem. Is that a warrenty issue

Believe it or not it may be the ecu/cover. Apparently they can come loose from the mounting plate.

Yeah does sound like pipe chatter, have someone press on the pipes and you sit inside and see if it makes any sort of difference. Noise might be transferring.

Ok first off thanks for the replies.
So it seems i have found the whereabouts of the noise........ ( i think )
I've had a look around after work and checked the fuel pipes i.e put pressure on them
and so on and ruled them out. And found the noise is coming from the top left corner of the dash kind of behind the glovebox, if i open the hood and poke my head in behind the fuse box and battery i can hear it from there to and just realised the motor doesn't have to be running to hear it either...
                  Any ideas anybody?

I can hear the exact same noise when i sit in my car with the engine off but the key in the acc(?)/on position.

I reckon it's the climate control moving the vents around coz if i play with the buttons that control the air flow (up, straight, down), i can hear the noise for a bit then it'll stop, presumably when the vents have moved to the desired location.

Maybe you can try this to see if that's the same cause of your noises.

Hey there xplainwhy i just took her for a drive and had a play with the climate controls and i think you've hit the nail on the head, when i changed the settings the noise would p*#s off but then come back after a couple of seconds sounds like it goes away when the vents are moving but when they stop the noise comes back.... Hmm interesting.
Maybe GTom could be right on suggesting the solanoids but would that noise come and go? Geez i hope its not " normal " coz that means ill have to put up with it or turn the tunes up.
