  • twin charger sound with out the supercharger foam

hi to the people with the ture tsi.

just wondering weather removing the foam around the supercharger make the car sound like the supercharged v8 holden (not the V8 part only supercharger whine) or does the supercharger cut out too early for it to make that sound?

if anyone has any videos of the sound please link. thanks

          have a search. There's a how-to on here somewhere.

"supercharger cover" might give you a few hits

Yes, you can hear the supercharger whine. With the foam removed you can hear it even more I believe...

Is that the answer you were after?

I agree, in the worst case you can just put it back on.

It still won't make a lot of noise (it's small..) and it drops out as the turbo spools up anyways doesn't it?

Most of the whine you can hear from a large supercharger is the belt. Gilmer belts are noisy because of the air escaping between the teeth as they contact the pulleys. The whining noise you can hear is actually the belt teeth 'farting' as the air is squeezed out.

By the way.. I'm not guessing, i actually have experience.

Yep, up to about ~3k RPM...

The noise is noticeable with the windows closed and the music at a modest volume....

Really? That surprises me. But, i guess a gear drive is a gear drive.

lol... well a modest volume depends on the person lol... but yeah normal volume you still hear it (I'm sure the other Twincharger owners can confirm this)

                          confirmed.
I heard Paul_OH drive away from my place recently (post foam removal) and his sounded sweeeet too.

it isn't the WAIL (like you may have heard on the last edition of top gear UK), but it is a cool sound - very obviously supercharged.

Just watched the Episode with the R8, The supercharger in the TSI is no where near as noticeable as the R8 one....

On a side note it's a pitty they haven't tried the FPV equivalents...
