Radio station text - RCD300

Hi guys

Sorry for all the Q's, but when I got the car, some of the FM stations had actual text for names, like "Nova" and "B105FM" and so on.
Did this text come from the radio station? or can you actually enter text in somehow?
I read the RCD300 manual, and there's absolutely nothing about station names being text.
All the radio stations I've put in are just numbers.

I think it's an automatic thing. When I tuned my iTrip in, it came up with "Griffin" automatically.

ahhh. Just found out...
Some stations use a ID system called RDS (Radio Data System) to broadcast their name. Obviously the RCD300 is RDS capable.

No stations here are using RDS

Fair enough. Yeah it seems to be only the crappy commercial stations that have it.

They also have isofix which is a life saver for children, we don't allow them to be used.

They also mandate warning triangles, first aid kids and blankets, we on the other hand with our bigger less populated country do not.

They promote safe driving over draconian speed enforcement.

They have traffic information etc sent to the headunit in the car, we allow a private company to offer a half baked service that requires you to buy new equipment to use and fund it with public funds so less than .0000001% of the population can use it.

So yep, innovators we're not in this country....... far from it. Logic would suggest we look to adopting more European laws and standards....

Some stations will send you track information on current / next tracks, etc.

With Digital Radio approaching, it should be interesting to see what other information they can provide that will interest you the first time, and you'll never use again...
