RCD300, 500 and Bluetooth

Hi All,
I've been reading the threads in relation to the fitment of a Bluetooth Hands Free kit and upgrading your head units to find out a few things, but I haven't found any answers to my questions. If I have missed the threads, can you please post a link to them or if you know the answer, can you answer any/all of the following?

1. Is the only difference between a RDC300 and RCD 500 a single v's 6 disc?
2. Is there a comparison guide out there for the HU's?
3. Will a BT Hands free kit work on any VW HU, or do you need a particular one (VW quoted me $750 fitted for the BTHF and no answer if a radio change was required)
4. I have an MY08 with "mp3" on the face of the HU, but it won't play MP3 CDRW's that I try, has anyone been able to play MP3 CDRW's?
5. Is it really a lot of work and wiring to fit the BTHF or is VW just trying to justify the expense.

1) i think the RCD500 plays MP3s (the later one does anyway)

1.) Yes and also TIM (Traffic Info, which doesn't work in Aus) the ability to adjust the mid range speaker and a nice little fade on track or source changes.
