For all you DIYs, Super Cheap Auto's having a sale on Castrol Edge 5w-30 at present abt $33. I'm not sure if that satisfies VW specs.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah i came across this shopping for parts last week. Cheap as hell.
Anyone happen to know if this oil would be suitable or had use with it for a 2007 Golf MKV R32.
Apparently it conforms to VW: 502 00/505 00.
Although the manual states something like 504 00 (with lifelong service) is required; thereby CASTROL SLX PROFESSIONAL POWERFLOW LONGLIFE III being more appropriate.
Also noticing my oil is running on the low side, close to minimum. Wanting to top up my oil, can i just add a few quarts, or do i need to drain the oil completely?
P.S. youve probably noticed by now im no means mechanically sound. LOLLast edited by Vdubya; 01-08-2009, 10:07 AM.

504.00 is required if you are on variable services (Long Life spec).
In Australia, we are on fixed service regime, so 502.00 is the minimum spec for MkV petrol engines.
Either of the Castrol Edge Sport mentioned above will do the job.
For those that feel compelled to use 504.00, Shell Helix Ultra Plus is 504.00/507.00 approved (one of the factory fill oils apparently) and is on special at SCA for $70. If you'd bought at the 20% sale last Saturday it was $60.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

You can just top up as required.

No problems thanks for clarifying that, i read a rather extensive thread with a 8 page debate on oil with no real decisive answer. I'll just top it up and rest assured that it meets the criteria for VW warranty validation.
...and yep that price has been confirmed just got off the phone with Supercheap auto.
