Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 104 RON Fuel

Looking to source some 104 RON fuel for the APR K04 104 RON program.

Wondering if people can list the suitable brands/spec that would be available that meet the requirements of our engines compression ratio, and the associated 104 RON program.

Would APR Australia recommend any one particular fuel available within this country?

Would love to trial it on a dyno. Curious as to how much of an impact it will have on the numbers.

    Elf WRF

    VP Racing MS103

    Martini Super Turbo 1400

Will all work well with the 104 ron program & we have run them all in Brisbane with a lot of success.

Depending on your location, it's pretty easy to get. I know all the Brisbane locations!

Make sure you have NO 98 ron fuel in the system before switching programs. Safest way of doing this is emptying the tank via the fuel return line (pump it dry).

    Be careful!

      Thanks Guy.

Is the 'be careful' in regards to emptying the tank, or my engine (or otherwise)

Did the cars (assuming they were GTI MKVs and not S3s) you ran tests have stock rods? Should I be concerned with running the 104 program with stock rods, or is that purely for BTs.

Also, is it correct that all 5 programs are to be installed when the K04 kit has been installed?

        Hi John,

104 (its a race fuel) - if you were going to use it all the time ie - race car, you would upgrade internals (not only for this reason) - for a single track day - It wouldn't worry it - it will be fine. Mileage, age, oil etc all pay a part in engine longevity!

The stage 3 setup we don't run race gas (as none of our 2.0TFSi cars have upgraded rods). Stage 3 they

Programs - depends on what is available for specific box codes, but all available programs are supplied with the kit if you were an existing APR customer!

        Stage 3 from the website:

"The power increase with the APR Stage III kit for the 2.0T is substantial. It is highly recommended that brake and suspension upgrades are done to safely use the potential of this upgrade. It is also recommended that the stock engine internals be upgraded for power levels above 93 octane 98 ron), as APR is not responsible for this type of damage to the engine."

The K04 kit does not carry this warning!

Hope this covers all your questions!

          Thanks Guy.

Interestingly, ELF states that the WRF has a RON of 101.6 fuel and VP Racing states that the MS103 is a 103 RON fuel. This is not an issue in any way for the program?

The ratings change because the are "oxygenated" fuels - which gives a different reading (not measured by RON or MON from memory):

this is the VP one (actually called VP 113)

            VP-113
Offering substantial power gains at a competitive price, VP113 is oxygenated to street gas levels with application in drag racing, circle track, road racing - virtually anything that moves. Formulated for naturally aspirated engines with CRs up to approximately 12:1-13:1. VP113 makes up to 2% more power than competitive 110-114 octane fuels, with gains of 3-4% in engine applications with poor or marginal fuel vaporization qualities. May require a tuning change of +1 to +2 jets for optimum performance.
            Color: Green
            Motor Octane 109
            Research Octane: 118
            R+M/2: 113
            Specific Gravity: .718 @ 60° F

All of them are the common fuels used by the high power turbo 4 cylinder cars, Subaru & Evo's, track & Race.

We have certainly used all of them (even if some have changed name / brand / blend) - tell them high compression, 4 cylinder turbocharged minimum 100 mon / 104 ron & you will be right!
