  • Headlights

I've been reading posts on this forum since the Mk V was released, and have not seen one comment about the poor headlight performance.
Is everyone else completely satisfied, or are you all prepared to pay heaps for xenons or whatever they are called.
I think it's reasonable to expect decent lights when we have paid big bucks for a quality car. My Holden is far superior [in that department]
Has anyone here tried the lights on a Mk 6?

If you want better lights get the Bi-Xenons, they're an option for $1890.

Or upgrade the bulbs to a slightly higher output one.

    Problem fixed.

    Or buy a crummydore.

No not completely satisfied. Sometimes I wonder if I even have them turned on especially whilst driving around town...show me the light!

        We have a winner here.
VW will make more of a profit selling you the bi-xenon kit so it would make sense to produce the car with a medium range light strength.
It's the same reason the stock seat cloth is not very comfortable in a lot of cars, that way you buy the upgraded seats.

You can circumvent this process by upgrading the bulbs or you can just put up with it.

You musn't have searched hard enough because I've mentioned it before that the standard halogen headlights are ****house at best.

I've gone and aligned mine the way I want them and also fitted some uprated bulbs which improved things hugely but they're still crap. Bearable for around town but terrible as soon as there's no light.

I also found I can't adjust high beam. They seem to aim up into the trees so I can see possums.

I haven't had a problem with the brightness of my lights. I think they're great and every night when I go driving I think of how much better they are compared to my Mk4's lights..

I just hope my new projectors are just as good (if not better).

They're actually called bi-xenons, and to answer your question, yes. Wouldn't buy another vehicle without 'em (next ones will be with AFS, maybe even the Superb's advanced AFS bi-xenons).

So they're called bi-xenons because they use a halogen bulb as the high beam and a xenon bulb as the main beam right?

What's this I was reading elsewhere about these lights also using the Xenon's as high beams (something about a little flap moving to spread the light up more)?

                      Second thing is right
it just uses the halogen to flash ur high beam as the xenon's take to long to turn on. When your on high beam it uses both the halogen and the xenon bulb at max. The shutter just adjusts how much of the light is allowed out.

Cheers thanks for that. Hope my reps have that as well!

You can adjust the high beam. Just not separately. You need to adjust the high beam first, and then the low beam accordingly.

Here is the link. It's for a TDI Jetta, but works just as well for a Golf...

Mine work fine too but sometimes I think are they really on when I am driving through town. In dark/poorly lit areas they are perfect.
