Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • audio upgrade suggestion

Hi guys, I'm not sure if i can post this here but it's regarding the mk5 and it's standard 10 speaker audio system. I realise, that it is not as good as my previous my07 camry. Can anyone suggest a minor upgrade to improve the bass? The speakers are alright, but when some songs that requires that bass the song becomes quite empty. And, for the I-pod cable, should I go back to VW to get that accessory fixed or else where? Some suggestion will be greatly appreciated; thanks

    Hey Mate,

Tons of threads on your queries if you use the search function... (sorry had to tell ya )

I wanted a little extra bass as well so I put in a 10inch alpine type R sub and a small amp to improve the bass a little. Some other guys got a small powered sub and install that under the seats.... just depends on how much bass you are after i guess?

In terms of an IPOD cable i went with the Dension 100 cable from the carkitcompany.com.au... very happy with it, and the service was great!

The company can come over and install the kit, but its pretty simple to install it your self just by looking at the installation (took about 20-30 mins)....

I have to say that upgrading the head unit to an alpine alone, made a huge difference. My next step of speakers, amp, sub, dynamat etc cost a whole lot more, and whilst obviously better, was probably only as good again, and simply gave a fuller, deeper bass sound.

I drove around with an Alpine 9887 on the stock speakers for several months, and it was good enough I could have lived with it if I didn't have crazier plans!

To get more bass, add subwoofers
To get better sound, get a new headunit, amp, speakers and sub as well as sound deadening.

This was my solution to lack of bass, boot space isnt so good though.

lol, you can't be serious? The bass in an ACV40R Camry sounds like muffled farts, regardless of the bass setting. The parcel shelf and speaker design is dreadful. And let's not go anywhere near that ridiculously over-bright audio display that needs covering up at night!

Is this a factory installed RNS510 in your Pirelli?
If so, I agree - it sounds *thin* out of the box - no factory amp.
I think the speakers are up to the job, they're just not getting fed enough.

Hey guys, I've dropped by today at VW and they said there's a plug in the glove compartment where you can fit the I-pod cable in. For $350 I feel like its a major rip-off.. any suggestion? Cheers
