Thanks tsiguy for the update. did you notice anything prior to the issue you were having that would have suggested something was on the fritz?

i've had my car since the end of Nov'08 and everything seems fine to date (knock on wood) and would be interested to know if there are any tell tale signs that i should look out for...

    thanks again

No, nothing. I've been told it related to the supercharger pressure control thingee, hence the wide swings in boost pressure betwen 1600 and 1900 RPM. The electrical harness wasn't long enough to allow for normal engine movement, so the harness was torn off. Not a problem for TDI's, clearly...

All fixed now, with a longer electrical harness which should avoid the problem re-occuring. Looking forward to driving it again tonight (and a return to that smooth power delivery...).

Good find, and you gotta wonder just how many TSI'ers are having problems due to this issue, odd VW didn't just do a recall...

Sorry, I have not read this whole thread, but VW did do a recall on the TSI with cold start issues about a year ago. Do you know if yours has been in for the recall?

Mine never backfired but it did used to make a knocking sound until the recall was done.

Certainly no-one contacted me about a recall, and my car had its 15k service earlier this year (after the recall). I phoned the dealer when I read about the recall and they said it was a DSG software issue with cold weather. My issue was definitely hardware, not software...

Hi Guys, my TSI Jetta had a very quick spurt of 3 short misses on Sunday..... only when cold and under load between 1600 and 2000 rpm.... first time it's ever done it..... 11500k's on the clock now but hasn't done it since. Due for it's first service soon so I'll ask for the 24m upgrade software when it's in...

You may need the replacement electrical harness, as well...
