Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Anyone have this problem?

I have the 08/09 Jetta TSi and have been owning it for just over 7 months... Since picking it up I've had the following problems...

1.Door seals are coming off (at the bottom) had them replaced (supposedly) at the dealer and they're coming off again! This time all four doors!

2.Weird chirping sound from the engine bay when you accelerate, took it to the dealer to look at, told me it was a faulty water pump had that replaced and the sound has come back (even louder and worse).

3.To add to my woes a rattling sound now comes about if you accelerate in say 6 or 7th gear. Believe me it doesn't sound good.

    4.Noisy squeeling breaks!

Have I just bought a 40K lemon? Tell me I'm wrong guys because I'm heartbroken that my first VW isn't living up to the expectation... I swear I never thrashed the car. I broke it in by using gradual acceleration letting it stretch it's legs in all gears on the freeway and then letting it wind down in every gear... I love this car... but it's killing me with the problems I've been having...

I can't answer all your questions, but the one about the door seals I can shed some light on.

As you may have noticed, they are stuck on with double-sided tape. Poor surface preparation is usually what causes them to lose adhesion.

In all honesty, I love the Jetta too, but given that they're built in Mexico, I don't have much faith in their overall quality. They seem to be a bit of a hit-and-miss affair.

It sounds like you've got a repairable lemon. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Take it back to the dealer and insist that these issues get looked.

Good luck and keep us posted

Fear not Boogz, I too experience some of your problems. My Jet is only 10 weeks old with 5000km on it. I too expected VW not to suffer from small quality issues - but no manufacturer is perfect ey. I think my car was a "friday car" though (or built very early monday morning).

I've got seals coming loose on bottom of both my front doors. As Maca (like your new avatar) mentioned, keep at the dealer. I've just left mine for the time-being but my passenger door is getting harder to close due to the saggy seal so will get around to it soon.

Squeely brakes have been mentioned before and I've had it recently. It should only be brake dust on the discs. Try doing a couple of quite hard stops and that may resolve it for a while. No magical fix there.

I think they are good vehicles, but I expected fewer quality issues and am somewhat disappointed.

The waterpump issue seems to be associated with the new TSI engines, mine is in today being looked at. How long ago did you get yours replaced before it started chirping again.

There is another discussion on here with some suggested solutions such as greasing the waterpump clutch/pulley, however I would think replacing the faulty component would have worked.

I have to agree with you.
The only thing I can put it down to is the day the car was actually made.
I can't believe or relate to the amount of problems our members on this forum find they have.
My Jetta will be 2 in November, have had not one warranty issue,no rattles,no squeaks, nothing.
I have said it a number of times my car must have been made on a Wednesday or possibly
the day after the factory workers were given there early bonus.
