  • MK5 Brake squeal. Warranty?

    Hi guys

My cars brakes started to squeal whenever I came to a stop. The slower the car became when it braked, the louder the squeal got.

I took it in and they told me that warranty would not cover it and it would cost 100 something to fix it.

Mind you, the car is just over a year old and it has 21,000kms on it.

Is there anyone who has a MK5 jetta or golf or golf gti whose brakes squealed but were fixed under warranty?

And also, why is this not covered under warranty? shouldnt it be? I mean, the car is only 1 year old and 20,000kms on the clock.

Try a couple of :safe: very hard stops followed by a cool down drive.

      Bazzle is spot-on.

That's exactly what I do to rectify them.

Thats piss poor as my friends jetta after 25k had the same issue and the dealer machined the front discs and replaced the pads under warranty.
As for the the de-glazing method mentioned above, you should be doing that every week or two anyway and should prevent the squeal from occurring in the first place. Good luck with it.

I personally wouldn't recommend machining the discs, to be honest. Like any other European car, they're a throw-away item.

I'd hate to be in the Warranty Clerk's shoes trying to claim a disc machine under warranty, that's for sure!

anotehr option is to take the pads out and get a hack saw and cut them in half, not all the way obviously, just through the pad material, it allows for more cooling or something and usually gets rid of the squeels. it works 90% of the time ive found
