Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Same pads as the Jetta, so $119 and $89 respectively.

Since we last time we spoke has QFM made a pad for the GTI?
Nup. The rear we could easily get made up by supplying backing plates, but the fronts would be a pain because of the electronic wear indidcator. If you were willing to bypass that we could get them made up in QFM. Pricing would be $119 per axle set in HPX, and $149 per axle set in A1RM.

Sick of paying too much for performance brake pads? Want high performance with low rotor wear?

I put Hawk ceramic on my GTI. Very low dust by comparison. No noticeable difference in stopping...hot or cold.

do they come with the wear sensor?
The Hawks did, but one type of plug only. Some VAG cars use the opp type (male/female). On my R32 I had to swap plug on pads over. Easy with soldering iron and 20mm of shrink tube.

Be aware you need a special tool to wind pistons back into caliper on rear of R32/gti, prob same for other models too.

New Hawk Ceramic Low Dust. Front HB538Z.760 D111 Rear HB544Z.628 D1108 Cost Approx $360-$380 from most vendors here in Oz and OS landed. Fitted front and rears today, not too hard a job. Rears needed a special tool to rotate piston clockwise under pressure so I had to make one or the wheels...

I ordered a set of Hawk Ceramic front and rear for the Jetta and a set of rears for the TT (Brembo big brake kit going on the front) all for $390 shipped.
