Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Which Brake Pads are closest to OEM?
Which brake pads are closest to performance ie bite etc to OEM but dont dust up as much?

Needs some pads for the wifes Jetta so dont need ultra performance pads just something like the OEM ones or slightly better that dont dust up as much.

A mate of mine recommended Ferodo DS2500's. Reckons they are fantastic pads. He does a bit of track driving in his Subaru so he might know what he's talking about.

Apart from the DS2500's being dusty and a full on track pad (both things he says he didn't need for his wife's Jetta) they're also ridiculously overpriced...

The closest pads you'll get to OEM will either be TRW or Remsa. They're the two largest OEM pad manufacturers in the world and supply the majority of European cars. Remsa would be my preference but both are rated to the 650 degree mark, and both will be significnatly cheaper than genuine.

Otherwise QFM may do them depending on model, and they'll be alot less dusty than either of the Euro OEM options. Let me know exactly what model it is and I'll price up some options, other wise give me a bell on 1300 884 836 and we can help you out.

changed brakes on the mkv gti on weekend. first time. front pads were pagid (tmd friction). rear pads were ferodo.

vw will use whatever is the best buy price at the time of production.

i've heard other pads used include jurid, ate, textar and mintex.

Absolutely. DS2000s (or TS2000s if you get some made in Thailand) would be a more appropriate choice if you insisted on Ferodos (but Greg makes good points for other brands).
                Nothing to see here...

I seem to recall the EBC greenpads getting a bit of favour because they didn't produce much dust?? I could be wrong...

I'd give the Remsa's a go. They're certainly going to be equal to or better than OEM in terms of performance, but whether they're actually less dust would be a try and see. They're not a dust free pad, but they're certainly better than Ferodo or Bendix Ultimate. It's hard to tell because even if a company does the OEM pad, often their aftermarket equivalent is quite different.

In a Remsa they're $119 for the front axle set (which also includes the electronic wear indicator), and $89 for the rear axle set.

EBC Green, are certainly good on dust, but I just find them a pain to drive with daily as there cold friction level is quite ordinary, and they're a fair bit more expensive at $200ish and $160ish front and rear respectively.

Remsa is Remsa, there's only one model:

                              Greg,

what would be the cost for the Remsa for the MkV GTI?

Since we last time we spoke has QFM made a pad for the GTI?

I still haven't fitted my HPXs to the Astra Turbo to replace the Greenstuff.

Greg is right, the Greenstuff has terrible low temp performance, needs a fair bit of heat before they bite.
