  • Fitting a reverse parking sensor

It has come into realization that I rely heavily on reverse parking sensor when parking (especially on tight kerb parking spaces)..

I have 2 options at the moment: 1) If its not too hard, i could try to diy it.. 2) get a professional to do it for me.
What kind of products are available out there?? i've looked over ebay and don't mind if i have to get those aftermarket ones. and how much is it gonna cost me to get a professional to do the job (approximately)?? any other recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    Ed

The genuine kits aren't too hard to fit, moreso on the Golf 5, where you don't even need to remove the rear bumper. Finding the single reverse light signal wire to activate them can be a bit of a pain, I've found.

The other thing is, they're not colour-coded, so they'll need to be painted.

Or you could mount them into the valance or even the rubber strip between the valance the the coded part of the bumper..

You could, but they are designed to go in the positions outlined by the template. The positions chosen, allow the sensors to sit pretty much dead vertical, to maximise their accuracy.

Ohh ok, I didn't know there was a template in place..

You could have a look at this:

It doesn't require drilling or painting and needs only two connections - earth and power from your reversing lamp.

There's both front & rear models available and is compatible with Mk5 VWs.

It's very likely to be my next mod.

i want to add oem park sensors to my mk5, but they are very expensive.
as i now have the RCD510 headunit, and it can display the parking sensors, this is my preferred option.

but..... it will require a new rear bumper (the sensor ones are different im led to believe) and the kit is very pricey....

KIT and priced at 499 Euro's not inc shipping (that's about $850 oz)

so a bit out of my range right now....

              Jason.

Save your money, they're useless, I've posted about them before on this and on the golfmkv forum. Absolute rubbish and a waste of time.

One of the problem is that my car comes with very little options.. I have no head unit whatsoever...
hmm, and if drilling is required it will most likely be drilled into the plastic bumpers right??

                    Correct.

4 22mm holes will need to be made into the rear bumper.

So Kaoticice, have you decided on which parking sensor you are going to get and what made you decide on that one?

                          Hi Kaoticice,

                          I bought this one, http://www.oo.com.au/Reverse_Car_Par...22335C1297.cfm
but yet installed, can't comment on the experience except cheap. Other members may have some good ideas.

What do you mean no head unit at all? Did you take it out and have a hole there?

Aftermarket sensors dont seem anywhere near as good as the Factory fitted ones and as others have pointed out quite expensive.

A camera may be easier and better.. or just look over your shoulder and side mirrors..

I just have the standard audio display ones none with the LCD rcd units. Yeh if I could find an a cheaper aftermarket sensors I wouldn't mind. Still doin research At the moment. If all else fails then I'll just call up vw to fit it in b4 I completely destroy the bumper lol
