Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 160 KW at the wheels

Many thanks to Neil and Peter from Evolve Technik and Fitzgerald Racing Services, for their wonderful flash upgrade. I have troubles getting smooth powerband on the stock ECU and the torque does not hold through the end. But evolve had made it happen, and it actually feels smoother when i put my foot down. It still delivers the seamless dsg transmission with no jerking. And the torque.. it's amazing how it feels when it keeps holding on to the power through the range. This is really a quality tune, almost like setting a new standard in the market of ECU upgrades. Now I know there are many alternatives out there like GIAC and APR, I feel, and now know, that evolve could match any other flash upgrade out there, if not better. .

Results, 215 kw 440 NM torque.

I was told I could get a better economy with the tune, as you can see on their webby; http://www.evolve-technik.com.au/. At 2500 rpm i was hitting 6 to 6.5 L/100km today, at about 3000 rpm hitting about 11 and of course, 40 at max rpm.. hehe.. hope this helps

doesnt anyone else think that 159 is a bit low? Isnt that an average number for apr stage 2 with a ko3? I mean I got 165kw atw with giac ko3.. (with an exhaust n intake) But we calculated to only have around 200kw at the flywheel..

it will most likely vary from dyno to dyno. Ive seen stock K03 cars dyno around 140kw atw. Doesnt mean a lot unless you compare it to a pirelli on the same day/dyno

I think dyno plots are good to show a gain. Or to compare one car against another on the day but comparing two completely different dynos from separate cars on separate days wont really prove much.

In regards to the drivetrain loss. I think 17- 18% is the accepted standard for a mkv.

If youre happy with the tune, can feel it in the seat of your pants and its silky smooth then thats all that matters!

It would be interesting to see boost and AFR curve.

I can't comment much on this figure as i'm new to GTI world, but after 6 years in the world of mild to heavy modifed WRX's (had 2)makes me think when comparing turbo sizes that this figure it bit low....

Not sure if this car is Pirelli on standard GTI but K04 on pirelli is similar size(or touch smaller) to Garret GT2871R which on 2 liter engines (WRX,Mitsu,Nissan) on 18 PSI peak is good for 200kw atw.
I know it is difficult to compare different engine/turbo combo's but i would expect Pirelli to do at least 180 KW.
As few companies around (GIAC,Superchips,Revo Apr) claim 300 HP on fly what "should" equal to around 220-225 Kw,once you deduct tranny loss (20-30 KW) that does come to around 200 KW ATW..........

                    ......or i'm missing something ????

PS: this is just my opinion, but on the end figure doesn't matter, it matters how car drives and size of grin on your face once you press loud pedal....

That's right, but mine's stock only with ECU re-flash stage 1. It's definately lower than GIAC I've researched, thing is why i liked this tune is because it maintains the factory curve and actually much more smoother than factory as you can see from the graph..

yeah seems a bit low and your figures are all over the place!?!?

still, if youre happy with the tune and evolve give you good support in case you need it, then dont worry about the naysayers.

                          see you on the street!

                              oh and another thing.

you got your car dynoed directly after the flash?

i bet youll find after a coupla hundreds kms, if you get you car dynoed again, youll prolly get another 10kw@the wheels.

takes a while for the ecus to adapt, so if the run was directly after the flash, itll represent the least power gain, with the most after alot of kms clocked
